Metal Building Construction Laborer Position Summary The Metal Building Construction Laborer assists in the construction of post-frame buildings, metal buildings, garages, agricultural structures, commercial buildings, and related projects. This position performs general labor, material handling, equipment operation, and installation duties while maintaining a safe and productive jobsite.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist with jobsite setup and cleanup. Load, unload, and organize construction materials. Measure, mark, and prepare building layouts. Dig post holes using hand tools or equipment. Set posts, columns, and concrete footings. Install treated splash boards, wall girts, and roof purlins. Assist with truss installation and temporary bracing. Install metal roofing and wall panels. Install trim, ridge caps, closures, and flashing. Install overhead doors, walk doors, windows, and hardware. Operate hand tools and power tools safely. Assist in operating skid steers, telehandlers, lifts, and other equipment (if qualified). Maintain clean and organized jobsites. Follow project plans, specifications, and supervisor instructions. Assist with loading company vehicles and trailers. Report damaged materials, unsafe conditions, or equipment issues immediately. Perform other construction-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED preferred. Construction experience preferred but not required. Willingness to learn pole barn and metal building construction. Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic math. Valid driver's license preferred. Must have transportation to designated meeting locations or jobsites.
Physical Requirements:
Frequently lift and carry up to 75 pounds. Stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb, and reach throughout the workday. Work on ladders, scaffolding, and elevated surfaces. Perform physically demanding work in varying weather conditions. Ability to safely use construction tools and equipment.
Working Conditions:
Work is primarily performed outdoors in changing weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, and direct sunlight. Employees may work at heights, on uneven terrain, and around heavy equipment.
Safety Responsibilities:
Employees are expected to: Follow all company safety policies and procedures. Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE). Attend safety meetings and training. Report all accidents, injuries, near misses, and unsafe conditions immediately. Never perform work that is unsafe or beyond their training.
Performance Expectations:
Employees are expected to: Employer has attendance policy Produce quality workmanship. Work efficiently as part of a team. Demonstrate professionalism with customers and coworkers. Protect company tools, vehicles, and equipment. Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Follow all company policies and supervisor instructions. Preferred Skills; Experience with post-frame construction. Experience installing metal roofing and siding. Basic construction installation skills. Ability to safely operate construction equipment. OSHA 10 certification (preferred but not required). Forklift or telehandler experience (preferred).
Reports To:
Crew Leader, Foreman, Project Manager and/or Division Manager.
Compensation:
Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, and performance. Overtime, bonuses, and employee benefits may be available in accordance with company policy.
