EXPERIENCED SCRAP METAL BUYER / YARD OPERATOR
We are looking for an experienced scrap metal professional to join our team. If you have previous experience working in a scrap yard, recycling facility, metal recycling, scrap buying, grading/sorting metals, or operating scrap-handling equipment , we want to hear from you. We are willing to pay more for candidates with proven scrap metal experience . The more knowledge and experience you bring to the position, the more we are willing to offer. This is a hands-on position that combines customer service, scrap purchasing, metal identification, grading, sorting, processing, and equipment operation. What You Will Do Purchase scrap metal from customers and provide friendly, professional customer service. Weigh and accurately record incoming loads. Identify, grade, and sort different types and grades of scrap metal according to quality and value. Recognize different metals and understand their value and common grades. Inspect loads for quality, contamination, and non-recyclable materials. Process and prepare scrap metal for recycling. Operate balers and other scrap-processing machinery. Operate lift trucks/forklifts to move, stack, and load scrap metal. Keep the yard and work areas organized and safe. Follow all company safety procedures and maintain a clean and professional work environment.
SCRAP METAL EXPERIENCE IS HIGHLY VALUED
Previous scrap metal experience is a major advantage and will be reflected in the pay we offer. We are especially interested in candidates who have experience with: Buying or selling scrap metal Identifying different metals and grades Grading and pricing scrap Working at a scrap yard or recycling facility Sorting ferrous and non-ferrous metals Processing scrap metal Operating balers, shears, or other scrap-processing equipment Operating forklifts/lift trucks Working directly with scrap customers If you already know your way around a scrap yard and can confidently identify and grade material, we want to talk to you. Candidates without scrap experience may still be considered if they have strong relevant experience, but experienced scrap-metal candidates will receive priority and higher compensation.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Approximately 40 hours per week Monday through Saturday, with one weekday off Sundays off Outdoor work in all weather conditions Physically demanding work involving bending, lifting, standing, and walking Work around machinery, scrap metal, dirt, dust, and noise Required personal protective equipment includes safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, helmet/hard hat, gloves, and other appropriate protective equipment
REQUIRED
Previous scrap metal/recycling experience is strongly preferred Reasonable fitness level and stamina Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions Ability to safely lift, bend, stand, and perform physical work throughout the day Ability to work well as part of a team Confidence and experience operating machinery is an advantage Strong awareness of health and safety Basic math skills Polite, friendly, and professional attitude when dealing with customers Willingness to learn and take direction No theft, robbery, or burglary convictions on criminal record Ability to pass a drug test PAY Competitive pay based on experience — with higher pay available for candidates with proven scrap metal experience. If you have several years of scrap-yard experience, know how to identify and grade metals, understand scrap values, and can confidently work with customers and equipment, tell us about your experience when you apply.
