Heavy-Duty Truck Welder

Job Description

Heavy-Duty Truck Welder / Fabricator - Refuse Truck Fleet Ricova is seeking an experienced and reliable Heavy-Duty Truck Welder / Fabricator to support the maintenance and repair of our garbage truck fleet and refuse equipment. This is a hands-on position focused on welding, fabrication, and structural repairs to garbage trucks, containers, and related heavy equipment. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with heavy steel, identifying cracks and structural damage, fabricating replacement pieces, and completing durable repairs in a busy fleet environment. Experience with garbage trucks, dump trucks, heavy equipment, trailers, or similar commercial vehicles is strongly preferred. Key Responsibilities Welding & Fabrication Perform MIG welding and fabrication on garbage trucks, refuse bodies, containers, and heavy equipment. Repair cracks, broken welds, damaged brackets, mounts, supports, frames, and structural components. Cut, fit, fabricate, and weld steel plates, brackets, reinforcements, and replacement components. Repair and reinforce hoppers, packer bodies, floors, tailgates, push-out blades, carrier components, and other high-wear areas of refuse trucks. Fabricate replacement parts when appropriate rather than replacing complete assemblies. Perform hard-facing, patching, and reinforcement of high-wear areas as needed. Use torches, plasma cutters, grinders, saws, and other metalworking equipment safely and efficiently. Garbage Truck & Fleet Repairs Inspect refuse bodies and related equipment for cracks, excessive wear, broken welds, and structural damage. Complete welding repairs identified during preventive maintenance inspections and DVIRs. Work around hydraulic cylinders, hoses, PTO systems, packer mechanisms, and other refuse equipment. Remove and reinstall components as necessary to access damaged areas. Assist mechanics with repairs requiring welding, cutting, fabrication, or structural reinforcement. Perform repairs on containers, dumpsters, trailers, and other company equipment as needed. Help identify developing cracks or structural issues before they result in larger failures or downtime. Shop & Fleet Support Communicate repair needs, material requirements, and estimated completion times to supervisors. Document completed repairs and communicate any additional damage discovered during the repair. Maintain welding machines, torches, fabrication equipment, and tools in good working condition. Maintain an organized and safe work area. Follow all company safety procedures, including proper PPE, fire prevention, and safe welding practices. Assist with emergency or time-sensitive fleet repairs when required. Qualifications 2+ years of welding and fabrication experience preferred. Experience welding and repairing heavy trucks, garbage trucks, heavy equipment, trailers, dumpsters, or similar equipment strongly preferred. Strong MIG welding skills required. Ability to weld heavy-gauge steel and perform structural repairs. Experience with cutting, grinding, fitting, measuring, and metal fabrication. Ability to read measurements and fabricate components from existing parts or basic drawings. Ability to identify cracks, weak points, and structural damage requiring repair or reinforcement. Hydraulic and basic mechanical knowledge is a plus. Welding certification is a plus but not required with demonstrated experience. Valid driver's license preferred. Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and work in both shop and outdoor environments. What We're Looking For We are looking for a practical, experienced welder who can repair and fabricate—not just weld two pieces of metal together. The right candidate should be comfortable looking at damaged equipment, determining the best way to repair or reinforce it, and completing a strong, safe repair that will hold up in the demanding day-to-day operation of a garbage truck fleet. Experience working on refuse bodies, packer trucks, roll-offs, dump trucks, heavy equipment, or other high-wear commercial equipment is a major plus.
