Job Description
We are seeking a dependable, hardworking Fab Shop Technician to support metal and sheet metal fabrication, including welding operations.
This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys working with tools, learning new skills, and being part of a productive shop team. The Fab Shop Technician will assist welders with cutting, grinding, fitting, installing, and assembling fabricated projects while helping maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, dependable, willing to learn, and able to work independently while supporting the needs of the fabrication team.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist welders with cutting, grinding, fitting, installation, and assembly of fabrication projects.
- Operate grinders, saws, cutting torches, plasma cutters, measuring instruments, and other shop tools.
- Perform basic welding-related tasks as assigned.
- Measure materials accurately and use basic math to complete fabrication work.
- Keep welding and fabrication areas clean, organized, and free of obstructions.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and assigned work areas.
- Safely move materials, supplies, and fabricated components throughout the shop.
- Complete forklift safety training and obtain certification to operate a forklift and other authorized equipment.
- Complete timesheets, work orders, parts requests, and other required documentation accurately and on time.
- Use basic computer systems for work orders, timesheets, and company documentation.
- Organize daily responsibilities and prioritize work without requiring constant direction.
- Work closely with welders and other team members to keep projects moving efficiently.
- Attend required training and continue developing fabrication, welding, and industry knowledge.

Qualifications - Valid and current driver's license required.
- Ability to successfully complete forklift safety training and obtain forklift certification.
- Basic math skills.
- Ability to accurately use measuring instruments.
- Familiarity with grinders, saws, cutting torches, plasma cutters, and general hand and power tools.
- Basic welding knowledge or skills preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn fabrication processes.
- Basic computer skills.
- Strong organization and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Dependable, self-motivated, and safety-conscious.
Physical Requirements
This is a physically active shop position. Candidates must be able to safely perform the essential functions of the job, including: - Pushing and pulling materials or equipment.
- Lifting 50 pounds safely and potentially up to 100 pounds when required.
- Climbing ladders.
- Working around fabrication equipment and shop environments.
The position includes a pre-employment physical fitness test and general medical questionnaire related to the essential physical requirements of the role.
Schedule - Full-Time
- Approximately 40 hours per week or more; hours are not guaranteed.
- Work hours are determined at the time of hire and may change based on business needs.
- Overtime as required.
- Evening and weekend work may be required.
