Landscape Designer Position Summary Torrison Stone & Garden is seeking a creative and technically capable Landscape Designer to develop attractive and functional outdoor environments for residential and select commercial clients. The Landscape Designer will translate client goals, site conditions, budget parameters, and construction requirements into cohesive landscape and outdoor-living designs. The role includes client consultation, site measurement, concept development, material selection, planting design, presentation preparation, revisions, and coordination with the sales, estimating, and production teams. The successful candidate must balance creativity with practical construction knowledge. Designs should not only look compelling but also be appropriately scaled, properly documented, financially realistic to construct by the production team. Primary Responsibilities Meet with clients and sales representatives to understand project goals, priorities, style preferences, functional needs, and budget expectations. Conduct site visits, field measurements, site inventories, and photographic documentation. Evaluate existing grades, drainage, circulation, architecture, views, utilities, vegetation, privacy, access, and surrounding conditions. Develop concept plans for patios, walkways, walls, steps, plantings, outdoor kitchens, fire features, pool environments, lighting, drainage, lawns, and other outdoor-living improvements. Prepare design presentations, mood boards, material palettes, planting concepts, and illustrative plans. Produce scaled site plans, layout plans, planting plans, material plans, and supporting design documents. Select appropriate plant materials based on site conditions, design intent, maintenance requirements, seasonal interest, and client preferences. Coordinate hardscape materials, colors, textures, patterns, borders, and architectural details. Develop multiple design options when appropriate and clearly communicate the tradeoffs between them. Revise designs based on client feedback, budget information, permitting requirements, and internal review. Coordinate with estimators to ensure designs are priced accurately and remain aligned with the client's budget. Coordinate with project managers and field teams to address construct-ability questions. Participate in project hand-off and pre-construction meetings. Conduct periodic site visits during construction to clarify design intent. Maintain organized project files, design standards, details, plant libraries, and material resources. Support marketing efforts by helping present completed projects, design concepts, and before-and-after transformations. Qualifications Degree or certificate in landscape design, landscape architecture, horticulture, environmental design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. Two or more years of landscape design experience. Strong design portfolio demonstrating residential landscape, outdoor-living, planting, or hardscape work. Ability to prepare scaled plans and visually compelling client presentations. Knowledge of landscape materials, plants, grading, drainage, hardscape construction, and site planning. Proficiency with AutoCAD, SketchUp, Dynascape, Vectorworks, Land F/X, Adobe Creative Suite, or comparable design software. Strong client communication and presentation skills. Ability to manage multiple design projects and revision cycles. Valid driver's license and ability to conduct site visits. Preferred Qualifications Experience designing high-end residential landscapes and outdoor-living environments. Knowledge of plants suitable for Connecticut and the Northeast. Experience preparing three-dimensional models or photorealistic renderings. Familiarity with pool design, masonry, outdoor kitchens, lighting, irrigation, and drainage. Experience working within a landscape design-build company. Understanding of project budgets, estimating, production rates, and value engineering. Measures of Success Client satisfaction with the design process and completed project. Percentage of designs that move into construction. Alignment between proposed design and client budget. Accuracy and completeness of design documentation. Reduction in design-related field questions and change orders. Timely completion of concepts and revisions. Quality and originality of the company's design portfolio.

Pay:

$60,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
