This isn't a sit-in-the-cab-only role — we need someone who doesn't mind getting his hands dirty: helping with daily equipment checks, greasing, basic troubleshooting, and pitching in on maintenance and upkeep around the yard when the machine isn't moving material. We're looking for someone who treats the equipment as their own — runs it well, takes care of it, and helps keep it running rather than handing every issue off to someone else. Key Responsibilities Equipment Operation Operate excavators, loaders, dozers, and other heavy equipment safely and efficiently across quarry and sitework tasks — cutting, filling, loading, material handling Read grade and work to plan with attention to accuracy and efficiency Communicate proactively with the operations team on production issues, delays, or site conditions Maintenance & Upkeep Perform daily pre- and post-shift equipment inspections and report issues promptly Grease, clean, and assist with preventative maintenance on assigned equipment Help with basic troubleshooting and minor repairs; assist mechanics when equipment is down Pitch in on general yard and site upkeep between operating tasks Safety & Compliance Follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements Maintain attention to detail when working around other equipment and personnel Complete MSHA Part 46 New Miner Training (24 hours) — required before unsupervised work in the production area; WSS schedules and provides this training Qualifications Prior experience operating excavators, loaders, dozers, or similar heavy equipment Willingness to do hands-on maintenance and upkeep work — this isn't an operate-only role Ability to work safely around heavy machinery and other equipment Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform physically demanding work when needed Preferred but not required Experience in quarry, aggregate, construction, or sitework environments Basic mechanical aptitude Prior MSHA training or certification What We Value Ownership — treating the equipment and the site like it's yours Attention to detail — small things matter in our operation Teamwork — pitching in wherever the work is, not just your assigned task Accountability — owning your responsibilities
