Summary:

The primary role of the Equipment Operator is to remove snow through the use of heavy machinery and to apply de-icing product.

Essential Functions:

Equipment operation Operate wheel loaders and skid steers with pusher boxes, blades, buckets or blowers to clear, push and stack snow on commercial properties. Switch between machines and attachments as assigned by the supervisor for each site or storm. Follow site maps and stacking plans so snow piles stay clear of fire lanes, hydrants, drains, handicap spaces and sight lines. Relocate or haul snow from overfilled sites when stacking space runs out, including loading dump trucks. Coordinate with plow trucks, sidewalk crews and salt trucks working the same sites. Work carefully around parked vehicles, pedestrians, curbs, islands and buildings to prevent damage. Equipment care and transport Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections, including fluids, tires or tracks, lights, hydraulics and attachments. Perform basic maintenance such as greasing, refueling and clearing snow and ice from machines. Load equipment onto and off of trailers safely when moving between properties, if assigned. Report mechanical problems, hazards, damage or incidents to a supervisor right away. Documentation and safety Record arrival and departure times, service performed and site conditions using the company's tracking app or logs. Stay on site or move between properties until all service is complete, including long or overnight storm events. Follow all company safety policies and site-specific client requirements. Qualifications Required At least 1 year of experience operating heavy equipment, including both a wheel loader and a skid steer or compact track loader. Valid driver's license and a driving record that meets company insurance standards. Reliable transportation and the ability to report to the yard or job site quickly when called. Availability to work nights, weekends, holidays and extended shifts during snow events. Strong focus on safety and attention to detail in tight or crowded spaces. Ability to read site maps and follow written and verbal instructions. Must be at least 18 years old. Preferred Previous commercial snow removal experience. Experience with pusher boxes, snow blowers and other snow attachments. Experience trailering equipment; CDL (Class A or B) a plus. SIMA (Snow & Ice Management Association) training or certification. Familiarity with Southeast Michigan roads and commercial properties. Basic mechanical knowledge of heavy equipment.
