In carrying out these duties, this position operates and maintains a range of construction machinery, including an excavator, backhoe, skid-steer, vac-truck, street sweeper, boom mower and roller, as well a variety of power and hand tools. This full-time position is paid on a salary basis with overtime eligibility.

- This position works under the immediate supervision of the Public Works Supervisor.
- Supervisory functions are not a normal expectation of this position. The incumbent may provide general guidance to temporary laborers as necessary and assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
- The position requires two years of hands-on, verifiable experience in operating and maintaining relevant construction machinery and equipment, with a proven safety record
- One year in public works or related work experience highly desirable
Required:
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Oregon State Class C Driver's License at the time of appointment
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain within a timeframe established by the City, an Oregon Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with air brake and tank endorsements.
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain in a timely manner upon appointment, an Oregon flagger's certification card
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain within a timeframe established by the City, a Grade I Water Distribution Operator Certification and/or a
Grade I Wastewater Collections Certification Preferred:
- Hazardous Materials (HazMat) endorsement.
Obtaining the endorsement requires a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) security threat assessment, payment of applicable fees and successful completion of the required knowledge examination. Employees must provide documentation of all required licenses, certifications, and endorsements upon request. - Conducts street maintenance activities including patching, pothole repairs, resurfacing, drainage maintenance, brush control, grading of unpaved streets and sign maintenance.
- Performs distribution and collection systems maintenance, including tracing and repairing leaks, pipe repair and replacement, maintenance hole repair, service connection installation and repair, and sewer cleaning. Completes occasional repairs to other city facilities, equipment, systems and other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
- Check City water system to ensure no contamination has occurred.
- Verify backflow devices that are not City-owned have been tested and approved.
- Generate and provide annual report to the State of Oregon.
- Build specific items for maintenance projects such as custom cabinets.
- Erect exterior structures as requested.
- Remodel and rehabilitate City buildings on a project basis.
- Conduct utility locates for contractors and homeowners at their request.
- Conduct utility locates for the City's public works personnel to facilitate project work.
- On occasion, provide utility location services to engineering firms preparing public works projects.

Physical Demands The physical requirements described below are directly related to performing operational tasks associated with this position: Regularly stands, walks, climbs, kneels, crouches, stoops, bends, reaches, twists and works on uneven terrain. Frequently enters and exits equipment, vehicles, trenches, maintenance holes and work areas. Performs tasks requiring manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination and the ability to safely operate machinery and tools. Frequently lifts, carries, pushes, and pulls materials, tools, equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally moves heavier items with assistance or mechanical devices. Workers in this position must possess sufficient vision, hearing, depth perception and peripheral awareness to safely operate vehicles and equipment, identify hazards, inspect infrastructure and perform assigned duties. May be required to work at heights, in excavations, in confined spaces and in adverse weather conditions. Must be able to wear and utilize required personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection when necessary. This position frequently operates motor vehicles, heavy equipment, power tools and hand tools. Work Schedule and Availability The typical work week consists of five consecutive eight-hour shifts, Monday through Friday. May be assigned to four consecutive ten-hour shifts from time-to-time as determined by need and assignment. Occasionally required to work outside normal hours to respond to after-hours situations, to be available on an on-call basis, or as assigned by supervisor.
