Position Summary CMC is building the piping crew for a large data center construction project in the Alexandria, Louisiana area, and we are hiring Pipefitters now, ahead of the project start. The work is heavy mechanical piping: chilled water, condenser water, process cooling, and hydronic systems built to a data center schedule and a data center quality standard. You will lay out and fabricate pipe assemblies, hang and support the pipe, fit up the joints for the welders, and hydrotest the system. Journeyman-level pipefitters are the priority; helpers and apprentices with real piping time will also be considered. If you also weld, tell us; we are hiring TIG pipe welders for this project under a separate posting. Pipefitting - Responsibilities Read, study, and interpret job specifications, plans, blueprints, and piping isometrics, including submittals of equipment to be installed within the mechanical system Organize the list of material required to install the job Inspect the work site daily to identify obstructions and safety issues, and control those issues Cut, grind, thread, clean, and fabricate pipe assemblies as required for each project Fabricate and install different types of pipe and pipe fittings (carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, PVC, and others) Fit up, align, and tack joints for welding to project tolerances Install pipe and secure it to the structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers Pipe in chillers, pumps, cooling towers, air handlers, CRAH and fan coil units, and process cooling equipment Perform hydrostatic testing of piping systems for leaks; a basic hydrostatic test of 200 PSI is common Coordinate with other crafts on the project to eliminate obstructions and keep the work moving Qualifications High school diploma or GED required Technical school training in pipefitting or HVAC preferred
Journeyman Pipefitter:
3 or more years as a pipefitter with experience in HVAC or mechanical piping, or an equivalent combination of technical school and experience Helper / Apprentice level: Candidates with 2 years of piping experience and a strong work ethic will be considered and trained toward journeyman level Ability to read and interpret piping isometrics, general arrangement drawings, fabrication drawings, and specifications Basic math skills, with geometry and trigonometry a plus, and the ability to read a tape measure accurately Ability to work productively alongside other trades on an active jobsite Dependable attendance and a safety-first mindset Valid driver's license required Preferred Certifications NCCER Pipefitting certification OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour Construction certification First Aid / CPR certification TWIC card (if required by project) Physical Requirements and Work Environment Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat exposure Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, and elevated structures Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and regular use of hands and fingers Ability to lift and/or move up to 50+ pounds Ability to access construction sites, confined spaces, and elevated work areas, and to work around heavy equipment (cranes, forklifts, manlifts) and high voltage areas Must be able to wear all required PPE Work is performed on a large, active data center construction site in the Alexandria, LA area; the project runs on a firm schedule with strict site safety, badging, and quality requirements Extended hours, scheduled overtime, and some weekends should be expected based on the project schedule; candidates living in or willing to work in the Alexandria area are preferred What We Offer Competitive hourly pay based on experience and skill level, paid weekly, with opportunities for increases based on performance Health, dental, and vision insurance, plus voluntary short- and long-term disability coverage $25,000 life insurance policy, premium paid in full by CMC 401(k) retirement plan Paid holidays, vacation, and sick/personal leave (PTO) Typical 5-day work week: 8-hour days, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (10-hour days, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. when the project schedule requires); overtime as required per project schedule Paid travel time depending on project location Continuing education supplemental program, plus ongoing manufacturer and industry training A clear path from helper to mechanic to foreman for people who show up and do the work A supportive, experienced team environment with real opportunity for advancement Reporting Structure Reports to the Piping Field Supervisor or Pipefitter Foreman.
