Job Description:
The Facilities Department of Nassau Community College (NCC) is seeking a Maintenance Plumber to install and maintain plumbing facilities throughout the campus. Under direct supervision, the position requires the use of judgment and skill and the work is reviewed for quality and completeness. In addition, the Maintenance Plumber will: Install, maintain, and repair pipes, valves, faucets, traps, sinks, toilets, air conditioning fixtures, heating fixtures, and other plumbing facilities. Bend pipe, cut, seam, and thread pipe; weld pipe and pipe fittings; use a variety of plumbing tools and equipment. Test facilities for leaks and check water pressure. Supervise and instruct laborers and other assigned personnel. Make time estimates and keep simple records. Perform a variety of non-plumbing maintenance and repair tasks, as required.
Requirements:
The Maintenance Plumber should have: Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in the plumbing trade. Knowledge of flows, pressure, and capacities of water tanks, piping, and other equipment. Skill in the care and use of plumbing tools and equipment. Ability to install, repair, and maintain a variety of plumbing facilities. Ability to interpret and work from sketches and blueprints and to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to perform a variety of non-plumbing maintenance and repair tasks as required. Ability to make work time estimates and keep simple records. Minimum qualifications include completion of vocational school training in plumbing and steam fitting AND two (2) years of satisfactory experience under a skilled journeyman plumber OR four (4) years of satisfactory experience under a skilled journeyman plumber.
Additional Information:
The Maintenance Plumber position is a Grade 9, non-competitive Civil Service title. The starting salary is $38,977 per year. After one (1) year, salary will increase to $57,585. Benefits include NYS retirement plan, health, dental, optical insurance, vacation, sick, and personal leave. Candidate must be a current resident of Nassau County for at least one (1) year.
