The Village of Rantoul is now hiring for a Pump Station & Sanitary System Operator. This is a full-time hourly position. The Pump Station & Sanitary System Operator installs and repairs the components of the storm water and wastewater collection systems; operates a variety of specialized equipment and vehicles used in the completion of maintenance projects.
REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of mechanical and/or electrical maintenance and repair experience
  • A valid State of Illinois CDL Vehicle Operator's License
  • Working knowledge of the care and use of the tools, vehicles and equipment used in water, sanitary and storm water system maintenance and repair
  • Working knowledge of the hazards of the trade and appropriate safety measures and precautions
  • Working knowledge of water system repair procedures and techniques
  • Working knowledge of plumbing as it relates to water and sewer distribution systems
  • Available to respond to emergency calls, work weekends, evenings, and holiday as needed
  • Mechanical aptitude and dexterity
  • Able to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Work independently and/or as a team
  • Establish and maintain a satisfactory working relationship with co-workers and the general public
ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THE POSITION
  • Maintains, installs and repairs the sanitary sewer system
  • Safely maintain and skillfully operate a wide variety of tools, vehicles and equipment used in the division
  • Determine malfunctions in equipment and to take corrective action
  • Operates, maintains and repairs sanitary sewer and storm water pump stations
  • Observe all safety measures and precautions required for the use of equipment and machinery
  • Flushes and inspects sewer lines
  • Replaces and/or repairs broken sewer lines
  • Assists with the grading, installation and maintenance of storm sewer and drainage lines
  • Cleans sanitary and storm drains on a routine basis, which includes root cutting and cleaning sanitary lines and televising lines
  • Maintains, operates and repairs the sanitary sewer and storm water pump stations
  • Inspects and maintains pumps, valves, air compressors and other machinery and equipment located in lift stations and wells; maintains motor controls & SCADA in lift stations diagnosing and repairing problems in the panels
  • Operates and maintains equipment, vehicles and tools: including trenchers, backhoes, end loaders and/or mini-excavator to dig trenches for the installation or repair of sanitary and storm sewer lines
  • Operates a variety of vehicles, specialized equipment, power tools used in the installation, maintenance and repair of sewer lines and related components
  • Cleans and maintains equipment and vehicles in working order
  • Maintains, services, and exercises various models of stand-by or portable generators
  • Responds to work orders concerning customer service and / or complaints regarding sanitary service
  • Determines the cause and the extent of the Village's responsibility and performs repairs if warranted
  • Restores and establishes landscaping following the completion of sanitary sewer or storm water repair work
  • Maintains landscape and grounds of Village sites as required and may include building pump station maintenance or repair
