Industrial Overhead Crane Operator Job Summary:

Responsible for safely operating overhead bridge cranes, hoists, and related material-handling equipment to move, load, unload, and position heavy materials throughout an industrial facility. The operator follows safety procedures, inspects equipment, communicates with ground personnel, and ensures materials are handled efficiently and accurately.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate overhead cranes, gantry cranes, hoists, and lifting equipment. Inspect cranes, hooks, cables, chains, slings, and other rigging equipment before use. Safely lift, move, and position heavy materials, machinery, steel, and components. Follow load limits, lifting procedures, and facility safety regulations. Use hand signals, radios, or other communication methods to coordinate lifts. Secure and balance loads properly before lifting. Perform routine equipment checks and report defects or maintenance concerns. Maintain a clean and safe work area around crane operations. Follow OSHA and company safety requirements. Complete required inspection logs and operational documentation. Work closely with riggers, maintenance personnel, welders, production employees, and supervisors. Respond appropriately to changing work conditions and potential hazards.

Qualifications:

Previous industrial overhead crane operating experience preferred. Ability to read and understand load charts, safety procedures, and operating instructions. Knowledge of rigging, slings, shackles, hooks, and proper load-handling practices. Ability to judge distances, clearances, and load stability. Strong attention to safety and detail. Ability to work in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Ability to lift, stand, walk, and work around heavy equipment for extended periods. OSHA or employer-recognized crane/rigging training or certification preferred, where applicable. Must be 20 years or older. (Job Specific)
