Job Description
Worknet is seeking an experienced Sheet Metal Mechanic for our client in Metairie This position requires a skilled mechanic who can independently lay out, form, assemble, and complete ductwork accurately and efficiently with minimal supervision. Work Schedule Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Primary Responsibilities Read and interpret shop drawings, fabrication details, and ductwork specifications. Independently lay out and form rectangular, round, and specialty ductwork and fittings. Fabricate items such as elbows, transitions, offsets, reducers, taps, plenums, and equipment connections. Operate shop machinery and tools safely, including brakes, shears, rolls, forming equipment, spot welders, and hand tools. Assemble ductwork using the appropriate seams, joints, reinforcements, and hardware. Verify dimensions and completed work for accuracy and quality. Work efficiently to meet fabrication schedules and production requirements. Minimize material waste and properly handle galvanized, stainless steel, aluminum, and other sheet metals. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Follow all company safety procedures and quality standards. Assist and guide less-experienced shop employees when needed. Required Qualifications Previous experience fabricating commercial HVAC ductwork in a sheet metal shop. Must be able to lay out, form, and assemble ductwork independently. Strong understanding of duct fittings, seams, joints, gauges, reinforcement, and fabrication methods. Ability to read a tape measure and perform trade-related calculations accurately. Ability to read and work from shop drawings and fabrication details. Experience safely operating standard sheet metal fabrication equipment. Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain consistent attendance. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a production team. Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods. Ability to bend, reach, climb, and perform repetitive fabrication tasks. Ability to safely lift and handle sheet metal, ductwork, tools, and materials commonly used in a fabrication shop. Ability to work in a typical industrial shop environment. This is not an entry-level position. Applicants must have practical ductwork fabrication experience and be capable of producing quality work independently.
