Position Summary The Sheet Metal Shop Fabricator is responsible for the fabrication and assembly of commercial HVAC ductwork, fittings, and related sheet metal components in accordance with project drawings, specifications, SMACNA standards, and Palmer & Sicard quality and safety requirements. This is primarily a hands-on fabrication position and does not have regular supervisory responsibilities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Fabricate commercial HVAC ductwork, fittings, transitions, offsets, elbows, plenums, equipment connections, and other sheet metal components.
Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, fabrication drawings, specifications, and shop tickets.
Measure, lay out, cut, form, bend, assemble, and finish sheet metal components.
Fabricate rectangular, round, and spiral ductwork and fittings.
Operate sheet metal fabrication equipment, including brakes, shears, plasma tables, Pittsburgh machines, lockformers, TDC/TDF equipment, roll formers, and other shop machinery.
Assemble ductwork using appropriate seams, joints, connectors, reinforcement, fasteners, and sealants.
Verify dimensions and inspect completed work for accuracy, quality, and compliance with project requirements.
Identify and communicate drawing discrepancies, material shortages, fabrication concerns, and equipment issues.
Properly label, stage, organize, and prepare fabricated materials for delivery to jobsites.
Minimize material waste and unnecessary rework through accurate layout and fabrication.
Assist other shop employees with fabrication techniques and equipment operation when appropriate.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and required use of personal protective equipment.
Perform other duties assigned based on production and company needs. Qualifications
Previous commercial HVAC sheet metal fabrication experience preferred.
Knowledge of commercial ductwork fabrication methods and SMACNA standards preferred.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication details.
Ability to safely operate sheet metal fabrication machinery, hand tools, and power tools.
Strong measuring, mathematical, mechanical, and layout skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a production team.
Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality and productivity.
Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and management.
Sheet metal apprenticeship, vocational training, or equivalent hands-on experience preferred.
Physical Requirements The employee must be able to perform the physical requirements associated with commercial sheet metal fabrication, including prolonged standing and walking; bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; and lifting, carrying, and positioning sheet metal, ductwork, and fabricated components. The position requires regular use of fabrication machinery, hand tools, and power tools and involves exposure to noise, sharp metal edges, moving equipment, dust, and other conditions typical of a fabrication shop. Supervisory Responsibility This position has no regular supervisory responsibilities. The Sheet Metal Shop Fabricator may provide technical assistance, training, or guidance to less-experienced employees; however, employee management, scheduling, discipline, performance evaluations, and other supervisory responsibilities remain with management. Work Environment Work is primarily performed in a commercial HVAC sheet metal fabrication shop. Occasional assistance with material handling, deliveries, field measurements, prefabrication, or other production-related activities may be required based on company needs.
