Summary/Objective The Sheet Metal Mechanic is responsible for his/her daily work assignments in repairing, modifying and fabricating metal, plastic, composites, and bonded structural parts and components while ensuring compliance with federal and customer requirements. Responsibilities and Duties Disassembles, cleans, repairs, modifies, fabricates, and assembles metal, plastic, composite, and bonded structural and non-structural parts and components. Repairs structures using hand tools, power tools, rivet gun, drills, and equipment such as hydraulic shears, manual sheet metal brakes, manual and motor driven sheet metal rollers, curing ovens, and jigs/fixtures. Performs work per work order instructions and supervisor instructions. Keeps work order paperwork up to date with progress of work performed. Plans and schedules individual work assignments on a daily or project basis within specified time requirements. Communicates to supervisor for any additional materials/equipment needed to accomplish the work. Reviews work in progress and upon completion. Complies with regulatory safety requirements. Stores, handles, and disposes of hazardous waste and materials according to environmental standards. Daily, on time, in-person attendance is required for successful performance of the job. Position is classified as "Safety-Sensitive". Potential candidates will be required to pass a DOT drug screening prior to employment and are subject to random drug screening throughout employment. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preference of 24 months experience in sheet metal/composite repairs, must be mechanically inclined with a familiarity with aviation maintenance. Must have a High School Diploma or GED Knowledge of applicable FAA regulations, Advisory Circulars, Orders, etc. Ability to read, write, understand, and interpret directions in English Ability to perform appropriate repairs using manufacturers manuals or other data approved by or acceptable to the administrator Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and machines Ability to work independently and complete responsibilities within time constraints Strong work ethic with reliability and dependability High degree of accuracy and attention to detail Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, reaching, overhead reaching, pushing, pulling, grasping, etc. on a constant and repetitive basis during the work day. The employee must be able to work skillfully with both hands constantly. The employee must be able to speak, see (20/20 vision naturally or corrected), hear within normal range and perform repetitive motion activities. The employee must frequently lift, carry, grasp, and/or move items over 50 pounds. The employee must be able to work in extreme environmental conditions including noise, vibrations, dust, fumes, oils, wear a portable respirator (when necessary) and adhere to all company safety requirements. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position with 40 hours of work per week. Hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
