Full Job Description Title:
Volunteer Board Member
Nonprofit Veterinary Clinic (Roseburg, OR)
Organization:
For The Love of Paws Location:
Roseburg, Oregon (meetings in person or remote — your choice)
Type:
Volunteer / Unpaid Governance Role
WHO WE ARE
For The Love of Paws is a nonprofit veterinary clinic keeping pets healthy and families together across Southern Oregon. Here's the part that surprises people: we run entirely on earned revenue — no grant dependency, no donation treadmill. Full-price appointments fund discounted care for neighbors who need it, and every dollar goes back into the mission. Since 2016, that model has delivered over $1 million in discounted community care. We're proud of it, and we want board members who'll help us protect it.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We're looking for two new board members to join us as we grow. This is a real governance seat — oversight, accountability, and honest questions — not a ceremonial title and not a fundraising quota. You'll help steer one of the only nonprofit community vet clinics in Southern Oregon. We'd especially love to hear from:
Veterinary professionals (retired, semi-retired, or active)
People with marketing, communications, or recruitment chops
Folks with nonprofit, compliance, finance, or community experience But don't count yourself out if that's not you — read on.
WHAT YOU'D ACTUALLY DO
Show up to quarterly board meetings (in person or remote — both work)
Look over financials, plans, and how the clinic is doing — and ask good questions
Lend your perspective on outreach, recruitment, and community visibility
Help keep us transparent and accountable — it's the culture we're proudest of
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Someone who genuinely cares about animal welfare and keeping vet care within reach for every family — that's the first qualification, and honestly the biggest one
No board experience needed — we'll orient you and mentor you. That said, backgrounds in veterinary medicine, finance or bookkeeping, law, HR, marketing, fundraising, or past board or volunteer service are all a plus
Willing to engage, share opinions, and make decisions together
WHAT YOU'LL GET OUT OF IT
A real hand in shaping a high-impact nonprofit — the kind of board seat where your voice actually moves things
A place to put your professional experience to work for something that matters
A collaborative, no-drama board culture focused on the mission, not politics
