$90,000-$125,000 per year (based on experience) About Helios Energy Helios Energy is a rapidly growing renewable energy and infrastructure company specializing in commercial and utility-scale solar installations throughout the Northeast and Midwest. We are seeking an experienced Solar Estimator / Procurement Specialist to join our team and support the estimating, purchasing, and successful execution of solar energy projects. Position Summary The Solar Estimator / Procurement Specialist will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial and industrial solar projects while also supporting the procurement of electrical and solar materials. The ideal candidate will have strong general knowledge of the solar and electrical industries, including familiarity with common electrical materials, solar equipment, industry vendors, and current material pricing. This position will work closely with Business Development, Engineering, Project Management, and Operations to develop project budgets, obtain competitive vendor pricing, purchase materials, and support projects from the estimating phase through project turnover. Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for commercial and industrial solar projects.
  • Review plans, specifications, bid packages, and customer requirements.
  • Perform quantity and material takeoffs for solar modules, racking, inverters, electrical equipment, and balance-of-system materials.
  • Estimate labor, equipment, subcontractor, and material costs.
  • Solicit, review, and compare pricing from vendors and suppliers.
  • Negotiate pricing and purchasing terms with vendors when appropriate.
  • Procure solar, electrical, and other project materials.
  • Maintain relationships with industry vendors and suppliers.
  • Assist with identifying material availability, lead times, and potential procurement issues.
  • Prepare proposals, bid packages, and scope letters.
  • Identify project risks, exclusions, assumptions, and value-engineering opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Project Management, Construction, and Operations teams throughout the estimating and procurement process.
  • Support project turnover after project award.
  • Maintain estimating databases, vendor information, pricing records, and historical cost information.
  • Assist with project cost reconciliation and lessons-learned reviews. Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in the solar industry with a focus on estimating, procurement, purchasing, or a related function.
  • Strong general knowledge of solar and electrical systems, equipment, and materials.
  • Familiarity with solar and electrical industry vendors and suppliers.
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to perform material takeoffs and cost analysis.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, purchasing requirements, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other estimating or procurement tools. Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience estimating commercial and industrial solar projects.
  • Experience purchasing or procuring solar and electrical equipment and materials.
  • Knowledge of NEC requirements and solar construction practices.
  • Established familiarity with solar and electrical vendors and supply chains.
  • Experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Helioscope, Aurora, or similar software.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Renewable Energy, Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field preferred. Benefits
