Job Description

Carolina Boys Plumbing is a locally operated plumbing company serving residential and commercial customers throughout Columbia, South Carolina, and surrounding communities. Our team provides plumbing repairs, installations, drain and sewer services, water heater work, piping, fixtures, water and gas lines, well pump services, and emergency plumbing support. Reliable plumbing service depends on having the correct materials, parts, tools, and equipment available when technicians need them. We are seeking a dependable, organized, and detail-oriented Purchasing Coordinator to support purchasing, supplier communication, material availability, order tracking, and day-to-day plumbing operations. Position Overview The Purchasing Coordinator is responsible for helping ensure the materials and supplies required for service calls, installations, repairs, and scheduled projects are ordered accurately and available when needed. This position coordinates purchasing activities from the initial material request through ordering, delivery, and documentation. Responsibilities include requesting pricing and availability, preparing and tracking orders, communicating with suppliers, coordinating deliveries and pickups, maintaining purchasing records, and helping resolve shortages, substitutions, damaged products, and other order-related issues. The Purchasing Coordinator works closely with technicians, service personnel, management, and vendors to understand upcoming job requirements and help prevent material shortages that could delay customer service. Purchases may include pipes, fittings, valves, plumbing fixtures, water-heater components, pumps, repair parts, tools, safety products, and other supplies used throughout daily plumbing operations. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, comfortable communicating with vendors, and able to manage multiple purchasing priorities accurately. Previous purchasing, plumbing, construction, inventory, or administrative experience is helpful but not required. Training will be provided for the right candidate. Key Responsibilities Coordinate purchasing of plumbing materials, repair parts, fixtures, tools, equipment, and general supplies Receive and organize material requests from technicians, service personnel, and management Review requested items, quantities, specifications, and required timelines before orders are placed Obtain product pricing, availability, lead times, and delivery information from suppliers Request and organize vendor quotes when needed Compare available products, pricing, specifications, and delivery options Prepare and place approved orders according to established procedures Verify part numbers, product descriptions, quantities, pricing, and delivery information before finalizing purchases Purchase pipes, fittings, valves, connectors, fixtures, and other routine plumbing materials Coordinate purchases of water-heater parts and installation materials Assist with sourcing pumps, water-line components, drain and sewer materials, and other specialized products Order tools, safety supplies, and general operational materials as required Track outstanding orders from placement through delivery or pickup Follow up with suppliers regarding backorders, shortages, substitutions, and delayed products Coordinate supplier pickups and deliveries with technicians and other team members Help prioritize material requests for scheduled service calls, installations, and urgent jobs Confirm that received products correspond with available order information Identify incorrect, missing, damaged, or incomplete deliveries and communicate discrepancies promptly Coordinate routine returns, exchanges, replacements, and vendor credits Research alternative products or suppliers when requested items are unavailable Help locate difficult-to-source plumbing parts when needed Maintain organized supplier and purchasing records Update purchase logs, order status, and related documentation Maintain vendor contact information and records for commonly purchased materials Assist with monitoring frequently used parts and supplies Help identify replenishment needs before essential materials run low Coordinate purchasing activities with basic inventory and supply requirements Assist with maintaining organized records for job-specific material purchases Help match invoices, purchase information, and receiving documentation for administrative review Identify pricing, quantity, or product discrepancies and communicate them to the appropriate team member Develop professional working relationships with plumbing supply houses and other vendors Communicate material availability and delivery changes that could affect scheduled work Support additional purchasing, inventory, service coordination, and administrative activities as needed Qualifications Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Dependable and responsible approach to purchasing activities Good written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage multiple orders, suppliers, and priorities Ability to review product numbers, quantities, pricing, and specifications accurately Comfortable communicating professionally with vendors and service personnel Basic computer skills, including email, spreadsheets, and online ordering Ability to maintain accurate purchasing records and documentation Strong follow-through and problem-solving skills Ability to identify discrepancies and resolve routine order issues Ability to prioritize purchasing needs based on job schedules and urgency Comfortable working independently while coordinating with technicians and management Willingness to learn plumbing materials, terminology, and product categories Previous experience in purchasing, procurement, plumbing, construction, inventory, supply coordination, or administrative support is preferred but not required Preferred Experience Experience or familiarity with any of the following is helpful but not required: Purchasing or procurement Plumbing materials and supplies Pipes, fittings, and valves Plumbing fixtures Water heaters and related components Pumps and water systems Drain and sewer materials Construction or trade supplies Tools and equipment Plumbing supply houses Vendor and supplier coordination Purchase orders Inventory and materials management Delivery and pickup coordination Invoice and purchasing documentation What We Offer Training and ongoing support Hands-on experience with plumbing purchasing and supply coordination Exposure to residential and commercial plumbing operations Practical experience working with suppliers, materials, and service requirements Opportunity to learn plumbing products, parts, and equipment Experience with purchasing, inventory coordination, and vendor management Team-oriented working environment Opportunities to develop additional purchasing and operations responsibilities Join Our Team Successful plumbing service depends on more than skilled technicians.
