The Buyer - Manufacturing supports the Material Manager and Production teams by procuring materials, components, and supplies required for manufacturing operations. This position is responsible for processing purchase orders, monitoring supplier deliveries, maintaining accurate purchasing information within the ERP system, and helping ensure materials are available to support production schedules. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, and able to communicate effectively with suppliers and internal departments. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Review purchase requisitions to identify material and production requirements. Create and issue purchase orders according to approved pricing, quantities, specifications, and required delivery dates. Follow up with suppliers to confirm purchase orders, lead times, and delivery commitments. Maintain accurate purchase order information within the ERP system, including pricing, quantities, specifications, and delivery dates. Coordinate with Receiving and Accounts Payable to resolve quantity discrepancies, damaged materials, missing documentation, and invoice issues. Verify purchase orders contain the correct part numbers, revisions, specifications, and project information. Maintain supplier records, pricing agreements, lead times, and required purchasing documentation. Support the Material Manager and Production Control by reviewing demand, available inventory, open purchase orders, and production requirements before placing orders. Request and maintain material certifications, packing slips, Certificates of Conformance (COCs), and other required supplier documentation. Compare supplier quotes and assist in evaluating pricing, availability, lead times, and overall purchasing costs. Communicate material shortages, delivery delays, and other supply concerns that could impact production. Work cross-functionally with Production, Receiving, Inventory, Quality, Accounts Payable, and other departments as required. Perform additional purchasing and administrative duties as assigned. Education, Experience, and Qualifications Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. 0-2 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, inventory, production control, supply chain, or a manufacturing environment. Basic understanding of purchase orders, inventory, and material requirements preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and other Microsoft Office applications. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational, follow-up, and time-management skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a changing production environment. Preferred Qualifications Associate degree in Supply Chain, Business, Manufacturing, or a related field. Previous experience working within a manufacturing or fabrication environment. Experience using an ERP/MRP system such as NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or a similar platform. Experience working with suppliers, purchase orders, inventory, material requirements, or production scheduling. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities High level of accuracy and attention to detail. Basic analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to compare supplier quotes and understand total purchasing costs. Willingness and ability to learn manufacturing materials, processes, drawings, specifications, and terminology. Ability to work independently while supporting a cross-functional team. Strong sense of urgency when addressing production-related material requirements. Ability to maintain confidential supplier and pricing information. Dependable, accountable, and committed to completing assigned follow-up activities. Ability to develop positive working relationships with suppliers and internal departments. Ability to identify purchasing or material issues and escalate concerns before they negatively impact production.
