Job Description

About West Coast Shipping Since 2007, West Coast Shipping has been a specialized NVOCC and international freight forwarder focused on white-glove, door-to-door vehicle logistics. We import and export cars, motorcycles, and boats by ocean container, RoRo, and air freight for collectors, dealerships, auctions, museums, manufacturers, and event organizers. We operate private warehouses in California, Florida, and New Jersey, manage documentation and loading in-house, and work with trusted partners across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Australasia, and Africa. Unlike most international auto shippers, we run the full chain ourselves — quotes, pickup, export clearance, AES filings, loading, carrier bookings, tracking, and delivery. Each customer is assigned a dedicated account manager. That is this job. Learn more at www.wcshipping.com. The Role We are hiring an Account Manager to own a book of active import and export accounts and keep both freight and information moving on time. This is not a junior coordinator seat. Our clients are demanding. Collectors ship high-value vehicles. Dealers and auctions work to hard dates. Wholesale accounts expect fast, accurate answers. You will be the person they call when a container is rolling, a customs hold appears, or they want a status update at 4:55 p.m. We want someone who is already good at this work — and who uses modern AI tools every day to get even better. If you have never used AI on the job, or you treat it as a novelty, this role is not a fit. Key Responsibilities Own assigned wholesale and retail accounts from quote through delivery, including high-touch and time-sensitive shipments Track, trace, and update shipment status daily; flag delays early and close them out Communicate clearly and quickly with customers, carriers, vendors, warehouses, overseas agents, and other WCS offices across a high volume of email and phone traffic Enter data accurately into our operating system and keep files, documents, and billing audit-ready Prepare timely customer invoices and resolve billing questions Maintain strong working relationships with ocean carriers, airlines, trucking companies, and destination agents Coordinate import/export documentation and customs formalities, including AES filings and related requirements Use AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, Copilot, or similar) every day to draft client correspondence, summarize shipment status, catch documentation errors, and cut repetitive work — then verify every output before it goes out Learn the operational process end to end and keep finding faster, cleaner ways to run it Coordinate pickup, loading, and delivery with our California, Florida, and New Jersey warehouses Required Qualifications At least 3 years of hands-on experience at an NVOCC or freight forwarding company. This is required, not preferred. Proven experience managing international shipments and demanding clients without dropping details Practical, daily use of AI tools to write faster, organize information, check work, and improve processes. You should be able to give a specific example. Excellent written and verbal English; comfortable with high email volume Accurate data entry and comfort with logistics software Ability to stay composed, precise, and professional when a client is impatient or a shipment is off-plan Ability to work in person at our Richmond, CA office/warehouse, Monday through Friday Preferred Qualifications Vehicle, RoRo, container, or project-cargo experience Working knowledge of AES filings, ISF, customs entries, and international trade documentation German, Polish, French, Spanish, or Russian Bachelor's degree in business, logistics, or a related field, or equivalent experience What We Offer After a standard 30-day introductory period, benefits begin on the first of the following month: 100% company-paid health insurance for the employee (family coverage available) 401(k) with a 3% company contribution 12 personal days Paid major holidays Monthly bonuses Annual performance review with opportunity for salary adjustment Annual bonus after one full year, based on overall performance
