Job Description Insight Global is seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) for a leading public transportation organization. This executive leader will be responsible for overseeing large-scale transit operations, maintenance, transportation services, facilities management, customer engagement, and mobility initiatives across multiple locations. The ideal candidate will bring extensive transit industry leadership experience, a proven track record managing large, unionized workforces, and the ability to lead organizational change while maintaining operational excellence. This individual will play a critical role in driving safety, security, fleet performance, employee engagement, and service reliability while partnering closely with executive leadership and presenting regularly to governing boards. Candidates with experience in zero-emission transportation technologies, federal and state grant programs, and complex multi-site transit operations will be highly valued. Skills and Requirements Executive leadership experience within the public transit/transportation industry Experience leading operations for an organization the size of RTD or larger Experience managing 200+ employees Strong labor relations experience working with unionized workforces Experience overseeing multiple facilities/sites Knowledge of transit operations, maintenance, and transportation divisions Experience with federal funding programs and grants Experience with state and local government funding programs Experience preparing and presenting board reports Strong stakeholder management and employee engagement skills Ability to navigate organizational change, employee morale challenges, and public-facing issues California transit experience Experience with battery-electric buses, hydrogen fuel cell technology, and zero-emission transit initiatives Experience overseeing fleets of 100+ vehicles (current fleet approximately 140 buses) Experience leading transit safety and security initiatives Background managing complex, multi-site transportation operations
Compensation:
200-210K annually Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education. Benefit packages for this role will start on the 31st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching. Employees in this role are also entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
