The Director will combine a deep understanding of Disney fandom and Parks retail with strong apparel product-development experience. This person will translate guest insights, merchandise trends, business performance and Disney priorities into differentiated products that feel fresh, relevant and distinctly Spirit Jersey. This role will lead the Disney Parks product-development process from initial opportunity through final execution, ensuring the right product reaches the right location at the right time. The ideal candidate understands that Parks merchandise is not simply licensed apparel, it is part of the guest experience and must connect to specific destinations, attractions, characters, celebrations, seasons and fan communities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Product Strategy Develop the seasonal and annual product strategy for Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort. Create differentiated assortments by Park, location, guest demographic, season, event and merchandise opportunity. Identify opportunities across women's, men's, unisex, youth and emerging consumer segments. Build a balanced product architecture that includes core volume drivers, meaningful newness, limited editions, test concepts and chase opportunities. Ensure products remain true to Spirit Jersey while continually evolving silhouette, fabrication, color, artwork, embellishment and storytelling. Translate Disney initiatives, franchise priorities, attractions, anniversaries and cultural moments into compelling commercial product. Disney Parks Partnership Serve as a senior product and strategy partner to Disney Parks merchants and cross-functional teams. Develop a strong understanding of Disney's business priorities, guest needs, location strategies and merchandise calendars. Lead productive working sessions, concept reviews and development meetings with Disney. Present product strategies, assortments, concepts and recommendations clearly and persuasively. Build trust through responsiveness, preparation, creativity, follow-through and a solutions-oriented approach. Gather direct feedback from Disney merchants and convert it into clear internal priorities and actions. Product Development and Creative Leadership Lead the development process from initial concept and brief through artwork, sampling, costing, approvals and production readiness. Partner closely with design, art, merchandising, sales, sourcing, production and operations. Establish clear creative briefs that define the guest, location, story, product purpose, target retail and intended launch. Raise the standard of innovation across graphics, treatments, materials, construction and garment silhouettes. Ensure artwork and samples are submitted accurately and on time. Maintain visibility into every development milestone and resolve delays before they affect delivery. Balance creativity with cost, manufacturability, margin, timing and Disney compliance requirements. Business Performance Use sales, sell-through, inventory and location-level performance to guide product decisions. Review performance with Disney and internal teams to understand what is working, what is slowing and why. Recommend opening quantities, test quantities, chase strategies, replenishment opportunities and SKU rationalization. Identify product gaps and respond quickly with relevant concepts. Establish a disciplined test-and-chase process that allows successful products to scale rapidly. Partner with commercial leadership on seasonal forecasts, revenue opportunities and account growth plans. Help rebuild sustainable growth by improving newness, assortment balance, speed and product relevance. Cross-Functional Leadership Create one clear operating calendar connecting concepts, art, samples, approvals, production and delivery. Lead recurring Disney business and product-development meetings. Establish accountability, owners and deadlines across all workstreams. Communicate priorities clearly and escalate risks early. Mentor product-development and creative team members supporting the account. Build a collaborative culture centered on excellence, urgency, curiosity and shared accountability. Qualifications 10+ years of experience in licensed apparel, consumer products, retail merchandising or product development. At least 5 years in a senior leadership role managing complex product programs or major accounts. Direct experience with Disney Parks, destination retail, theme-park merchandise or another high-volume experiential retail environment strongly preferred. Demonstrated success creating commercially successful licensed products from concept through delivery. Strong knowledge of apparel development, artwork techniques, embellishments, sourcing, costing and production timelines. Ability to interpret sales and sell-through data and translate findings into product actions. Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing multiple overlapping calendars and deadlines. Strong presentation, communication, relationship-management and decision-making skills. Genuine knowledge of Disney characters, franchises, Parks, attractions and fan culture.
