General Description of Position:
Apply on Company Website https://app.connecteam.com/#/apply?link=e68a1ef8-7330-46c7-aa87-72d342709f2a The Tow Dispatcher is the crucial link between customers needing roadside assistance and the tow truck operators who provide it. This fast-paced role requires excellent communication, problem-solving, and strong multi-tasking and organizational skills to efficiently and safely dispatch tow trucks to various locations. The dispatcher must maintain accurate records, prioritize calls effectively, and provide exceptional customer service in often stressful situations. The dispatch center operates 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, requiring applicants to have the flexibility to work all shifts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Answers and responds appropriately to incoming calls from Police, Motor Clubs, and the general public. Determines, calmly and effectively, critical information for processing a call, including establishing the nature of the incident; this may require an employee to use originality in asking appropriate questions while maintaining departmental policy and procedure. Enters and allocates information into the computer while simultaneously receiving information from the caller. Determines what style of truck is needed to respond to a call. Receives and processes service requests via phone and other communication methods (e.g., email, mobile apps). Gather all necessary information, including location, vehicle type, nature of the problem, and contact details. Utilizes multiple computers, multiple computer-based programs, and multiple display monitors to perform a variety of job functions. Maintains the current status of personnel and equipment already out on calls while dispatching. Maintains accurate records of computer operations as required. Utilizes dispatch software and communication systems to assign appropriate tow trucks and operators to service calls based on location, equipment needs, and availability. Utilizes appropriate equipment necessary to perform job duties such as computer, two-way radio, as well as related dispatch and recording equipment. This duty is performed daily, about 10% of the time. Plans and coordinates efficient routes for tow truck operators to minimize response times and maximize productivity. Maintains constant communication with tow truck operators, providing them with call details, directions, and any updates or changes. Monitors their progress and ensures timely arrival at the customer's location. Performs minor office functions such as cleaning up the workspace, copying, and sorting. Provides professional and empathetic customer service, keeping customers informed of estimated arrival times and any potential delays. Addresses customer inquiries and concerns in a calm and efficient manner. Handles unexpected situations, such as traffic delays, vehicle breakdowns, or changes in service requests, and makes necessary adjustments to dispatch assignments. Communicates with law enforcement, insurance companies, and repair shops as needed. Performs any other related duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. High School Diploma or GED required. No experience necessary; all training provided. Mental alertness and adaptability to office work routines.
Communication Skills:
Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public, and other employees of the organization.
Computer Skills:
Must be able to type 40 words per minute (wpm). Proficiency in using computers and the ability to learn new software quickly. Must be comfortable working with multiple computers, multiple computer-based programs, and multiple display monitors simultaneously.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Must have strong multi-tasking skills. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities. Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure. Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment. Excellent customer service skills with a patient and empathetic demeanor. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Willingness and ability to work all shifts as the dispatch center operates 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Strong geographical knowledge of the service area is beneficial. Basic understanding of vehicle types and towing procedures is beneficial.
Critical Thinking Skills:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of known variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram formats.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer. Ability to speak clearly and hear phone conversations.
