Job Summary

The Part-Time Campus Safety & Services Dispatcher serves as a customer-focused resource for students, employees, and visitors while supporting campus safety and operational services. This position provides front-line assistance by answering phones, responding to inquiries, issuing parking permits, assisting with lost and found services, and providing general administrative support.

In addition to customer service responsibilities, the dispatcher supports campus safety operations by receiving and relaying non-emergency and emergency information, monitoring security systems, maintaining records, and coordinating communication between campus personnel and public safety staff. The successful candidate demonstrates professionalism, strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Additional Information

Maricopa Community Colleges is a Plan employer of the Arizona State Retirement System and all employees of MCCCD become members of the System once eligibility requirements are satisfied.

Employees are required to make contributions to the ASRS Plan if they work for twenty hours or more per week for twenty weeks or more in a fiscal year.

For Faculty, one load hour is equivalent to two clock hours. Arizona State Retirement contributions will automatically be deducted from your paychecks. The state retirement withholding rate may change each fiscal year. Rates can be found on the ASRS web site.

Essential Functions

Serve as the primary point of contact for students, employees, visitors, and community members seeking assistance.

Answer telephones, respond to inquiries, provide information, and direct individuals to appropriate campus resources.

Issue parking permits and assist with parking-related questions and services.

Receive, document, secure, and return lost and found property in accordance with established procedures.

Receive and prioritize emergency and non-emergency calls for service and route information to appropriate personnel.

Monitor and operate communications equipment, security cameras, alarms, and access control systems.

Dispatch campus safety personnel and relay information accurately and professionally.

Maintain detailed and accurate records, logs, reports, and other documentation.

Assist with administrative and clerical duties including data entry, filing, and records management.

Support special events, campus operations, and departmental initiatives as assigned.

Provide exceptional customer service while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.

Exercise sound judgment and remain calm and professional when handling difficult situations or multiple competing priorities.

Follow District and College policies, procedures, and operational guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED

Reliable transportation and the ability to be punctual and responsible in execution of assigned duties

Ability to learn and become proficient using two-way radios and telephones

Ability to learn, interpret, and apply District/College policies and procedures

Ability to learn and become proficient using Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) within 90 days of hire

Computer experience using Microsoft Word and Internet applications

Desired Qualifications

Experience providing customer service in an office, educational, public service, or service-oriented environment.

Experience answering multi-line telephones and assisting a diverse population.

Experience performing administrative support duties, record keeping, or data entry.

Experience working in higher education, municipal government, public service, security, or related environments.

Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining a professional and welcoming demeanor.

Experience handling confidential or sensitive information.

Special Working Conditions

Successful candidate may be required to fill other vacant shifts as needed. Position is limited to under 25 hours per week but may work up to 40 during periods of extra staffing needs. Requires sitting for extended periods of time. Must successfully pass a comprehensive background check. May be required to submit to periodic comprehensive background checks.

The budget for this position cannot support regular overtime, blended overtime, or an increase to existing employee benefits. This is an at-will, temporary position.
