Oak Brook, IL Direct Hire opportunity with career growth and stability Health, dental, and vision insurance Opportunities for professional development and advancement Job Description An established transportation and logistics company is seeking an Intermodal Dispatcher to coordinate drivers, freight, equipment, and daily delivery schedules. In this fast-paced role, you will communicate directly with drivers, monitor freight movement, resolve transportation issues, and help ensure timely and cost-effective service. The ideal candidate brings intermodal or logistics experience, strong communication and problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage changing priorities throughout the day.
Responsibilities:
Plan and coordinate daily and weekly driver schedules to maximize timely and cost-efficient freight coverage Communicate with drivers to prioritize loads, establish routes, provide appointment information, and address service or equipment issues Monitor container and equipment activity to help prevent demurrage, storage fees, and service failures Track freight movement, equipment, calls, activities, and other transportation information while maintaining accurate system records Build strong relationships with independent contractors and support driver recruiting, retention, safety, and customer-service efforts
Qualifications and Requirements:
2-3 years of intermodal transportation experience strongly preferred ; related logistics or dispatch experience will also be considered Strong organizational, communication, multitasking, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook Knowledge of Profit Tools is preferred Knowledge of DOT regulations, hazardous materials requirements, and Chicago-area rail and depot operations Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and adjust to a flexible schedule when needed
