Job Summary:

The Dispatcher is an essential and crucial part of LCC's Police and Emergency Management Departments. This position supports continuous operations and requires coverage 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, and 365 days/year. This position will respond to incoming radio transmissions and phone calls, radio dispatch Police Officers and Security Guards, and assist Dispatch Operations Manager in updating, coordinating and maintaining all dispatch records and functions. They are responsible for responding to radio/telephone inquiries from public safety personnel and the general public concerning complaints, emergency situations, and criminal activity. Dispatchers partner with law enforcement officers on the road, supplying critical information and crucial services for their day-to-day operations while coordinating deployment of emergency personnel and equipment during any crisis situation. This position will also continuously monitor the fire and energy management systems for any issues or alarms. All Dispatchers must demonstrate a commitment to the diversity of a multi-cultural population, as well as work effectively in a team-based environment, seeking continuous improvement and adherence to the community college philosophy. This position will be scheduled for shifts to include day, evening, midnight, or on a rotating basis as determined by the Division or Department in support of College operations. Regular on campus presence is expected for all LCC employment. Any flexible work schedules and/or hybrid work schedules approved by the College are subject to change based on the needs of the LCC community. LCC policy requires all LCC employees to be residents of the State of Michigan and to perform all work (with limited exceptions) within the State of Michigan. Final candidates will be subject to a criminal background check as part of the employment process.

Required Qualifications:

HS Diploma/GED and one of the following: Some college credits in a criminal justice related area Demonstrated work experience in an emergency response career No criminal record. Valid driver's license and ability to meet college requirements for operating college-owned vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice or related area. Previous campus law enforcement dispatch experience. Demonstrated experience in a dispatch center or similar setting. Level 1 Dispatch training certificate. Lansing Community College prohibits sex discrimination in any educational program or activity that it operates.
