Dispatcher, Security Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools - 3.6 Charlotte, NC Job Details From $21.32 an hour 17 hours ago Qualifications High school diploma or GED Full Job Description General Definition of Work The dispatcher, under general supervision, performs support work with minimal decision-making discretion receiving incoming calls for assistance and dispatching appropriate services, as needed. Position is responsible for clerical duties and maintaining a variety of records and reports. Employee performs district-level work to carry out Board of Education policies under the direction of the supervisor of school law enforcement or the assistant director of transportation special projects. Essential Functions Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures Receive and log emergency calls such as power failure, elevator entrapment, intrusion alarms, fire or other emergency; determine nature, priority and location of emergency; dispatch appropriate school system personnel; call other agency emergency units as necessary and in accordance with established procedures Locate and dispatch security or maintenance personnel by two-way radio and telephone as necessary; report emergencies to appropriate administrative and supervisory personnel in accordance with established operational policies Coordinate field communications between field units and units of other agencies and organizations Establish and maintain daily logs and records associated with maintenance calls for service; prepare work orders and route to appropriate department for action Monitor alarm print outs; communicate irregularities to appropriate personnel; dispatch security patrol officer to area to investigate malfunction Answer non-emergency calls for assistance; answer maintenance service emergencies during evenings, weekends and holidays Operate a variety of telecommunications equipment including a multi-line telephone system, radio desk set and digital alarm receivers Monitor and maintain log of key distribution of authorized security or maintenance personnel Maintain records and files on transportation, security, warehouse, administrative and maintenance vehicles; collect and record data on new vehicles; obtain vehicle registrations as necessary Provide information and assistance to the general public Receive and distribute incoming calls to appropriate officers after hours Monitor weather broadcasts and notify appropriate officials in the event of threatening weather conditions Receive incoming phone messages and distribute to the appropriate parties Perform related duties as assigned Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent required Minimum of one (1) year telecommunication or dispatch experience required Equivalent combination of education and experience Pay schedule/

From 21.32 Teacher Scale N Minimum Educational Requirements HS diploma Term 12 Month Additional Job Information Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Knowledge of standard radio broadcasting procedures and rules Knowledge of the location of school system facilities Knowledge of principles and procedures of record keeping and reporting as related to the police telecommunications, security maintenance of logs and reports Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements Knowledge of county and school board policies, procedures, and standards Skilled in communication, both verbal and written Skilled in computers and software including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace Ability to work under pressure, exercise good judgment and make sound decisions in emergency situations Ability to learn geographic features and streets surrounding school system facilities Ability to type at a speed necessary for successful job performance Ability to problem-solve utilizing sound judgment Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships; work collaboratively within and across departments, external agencies, and the public Ability to respond appropriately to situations while maintaining a professional and personable demeanor Ability to use or learn specialized tools, equipment, or software Ability to implement local, state, and federal rules, guidelines, and procedures into daily business operations Ability to maintain confidentiality Ability to develop related charts, graphs, reports, and records Ability to take initiative and work independently Ability to perform detailed work Physical Requirements/Working Conditions Work requires the occasional exertion of up to ten pounds of force Work regularly requires the exchange of accurate and detailed information through oral and written communication Constantly operates a computer and other office business equipment Ability to remain in stationary position for required meetings/work Ability to move to other work locations Visual acuity requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through verbal communications Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating standard office equipment, and use of advanced technology Work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g., business office, light traffic) Requires the ability to interact with people beyond giving and receiving instructions Must be adaptable to performing under mild to high levels of stress
