GENERAL JOB

Manages the school transportation dispatch system, communicating essential information to drivers, parents, administration, and school staff as necessary in an efficient and effective manner. Works under the direction of the Transportation Supervisor, the Transportation Administrative Assistant, and the Transportation Specialist.

QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Minimum age of 21 years.

Dispatch experience preferred.

Ability to communicate effectively with students/parents/staff required.

Computer literate.

Ability to read and interpret road maps.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Ability to work effectively under pressure.

Ability to maintain accurate records.

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Ability to operate communications system.

Ability to organize, set priorities and meet deadlines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Dispatch buses and district vehicles to appropriate routes.

Assist with the assignment of substitute drivers due to absences.

Communicate with drivers via the transportation communication system regarding, among other information, routes, emergencies, road conditions, and student information in a timely manner.

Receive and respond to phone calls from parent/guardian, public, and staff concerning transportation by providing information as appropriate, and referring call to appropriate staff members when necessary, while maintaining professional demeanor.

Provide necessary information to assist in the development and/or updating of bus routes and schedules throughout the school year.

Communicates effectively and professionally with students, employers, school staff, parents and the public regarding the transportation of students.

Maintains good public relations.

Maintains familiarity with vehicle maintenance concepts.

Completes required reports in a timely and professional manner.

Completes all training programs and all continuing education, as required, in a timely and professional manner.

Generates transportation-related reports as requested by other transportation department personnel.

Develop and maintain filing and record-keeping systems, both physical and electronic, regarding transportation information.

Ensure that sufficient levels of bus supplies are maintained.

Arrange for meeting space, send notices and track responses, ensure appropriate refreshments are available, and rooms and equipment are properly set up.

Use standard office equipment.

Report employees hours of work and all leave to Transportation Administrative Assistant per district policy and procedures in a timely and efficient manner.

Embraces and encourages the acceptance of diversity.

Works cooperatively and in a professional manner with supervisors, administrators, and all staff.

Maintains positive working relationships with a variety of personalities and temperaments among other school and transportation personnel, students and public.

Performs tasks quickly and efficiently and follow verbal directions.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs other duties as assigned or directed by the immediate supervisor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Physical Rating Level This position will require the employee to function at a Medium physical capacity as defined by Workers Compensation Statutes. Medium physical indicates the ability to lift up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds with assistance occasionally.

SAFETY AND HEALTH REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions.

Must pass random drug and alcohol testing.

Must pass screening, and random reviews, of driving record.
