Full-time About the role HMR Transport is seeking a full-time Fleet Dispatcher to join our operations team. This position is responsible for planning and scheduling freight, assigning drivers, monitoring active loads, and maintaining communication with drivers and customers. Our dispatch team operates a rotating 24-hour coverage schedule. When assigned dispatch, you are responsible for the operation until the next scheduled handoff. When another dispatcher has coverage, your primary focus will be scheduling upcoming loads, planning driver assignments, and preparing the operation for the days ahead. This position works primarily from our Brookshire office during normal business hours, with one day per week at our El Campo office, typically Wednesday . Evening, overnight, and weekend dispatch coverage is handled remotely. Schedule & after-hours coverage Our operation runs 24/7, and this position participates in the dispatch coverage rotation. Dispatch coverage generally changes hands around 1:00 PM Dispatchers alternate 24-hour coverage periods Evening and overnight coverage is handled remotely from home Weekend coverage rotates and is approximately one weekend per month Weekend coverage generally runs from Friday afternoon through Monday afternoon Overnight coverage is not continuous desk work, but the assigned dispatcher must remain available and responsive Applicants should be comfortable with the schedule and after-hours responsibility before applying. Responsibilities Plan, schedule, and assign loads to drivers Manage driver assignments based on availability, hours of service, customer requirements, and equipment Monitor active loads, ETAs, pickups, and deliveries Communicate professionally with drivers, customers, brokers, and facilities Identify and resolve service issues, delays, breakdowns, and appointment changes Monitor driver hours of service and make compliant dispatch decisions Maintain accurate load, driver, and equipment information Schedule upcoming freight and prepare future driver assignments Coordinate with the dispatch team to ensure clear and complete handoffs Take ownership of the operation during assigned dispatch coverage Qualifications Transportation, trucking, logistics, or dispatch experience preferred College degree preferred, but not required Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure Strong written and verbal communication skills Excellent organization and attention to detail Ability to manage multiple drivers and loads simultaneously Working knowledge of hours of service preferred Comfortable working with transportation software and computer-based systems Reliable high-speed internet and a dedicated workspace for remote after-hours coverage Ability to work from our El Campo office one day per week, typically Wednesday Ability and willingness to participate in rotating 24-hour and weekend dispatch coverage Training You'll train alongside our experienced dispatch team and learn our drivers, customers, lanes, systems, and processes before taking independent dispatch coverage.
