Tails R' Waggin' Day Spa & Resort is seeking an experienced, hands-on Assistant Manager to help lead the daily operation of our dog daycare, boarding, and grooming facility.
Our leadership philosophy is simple:
KNOW IT — Master the work. LEAD IT — Help others meet the standard. OWN IT — Take responsibility for the outcome. The Assistant Manager is expected to OWN IT. This position requires someone who can see what is happening throughout the facility, think ahead, provide direction to the team, make sound routine decisions, solve problems, and follow through without waiting for someone else to identify what needs attention. The Assistant Manager reports to the Facility Director and must be capable of independently overseeing daily facility operations when the Facility Director is not onsite. What You'll DoLead the Daily Operation Take responsibility for the successful execution of daily daycare, boarding, feeding, medication, cleaning, enrichment, check-in, and check-out operations. Maintain awareness of what is happening throughout the facility—not simply your own assigned responsibilities. Anticipate staffing, pet-care, client, and operational needs before they become problems. Prioritize competing needs and adjust team assignments throughout the day. Make sound routine operational decisions independently. Ensure opening, closing, documentation, sanitation, and pet-care standards are completed accurately and on time. Manage & Develop the Team Provide direction and accountability to Staff Leads and Animal Care Specialists. Delegate responsibilities appropriately and follow through to ensure completion. Coach employees when expectations are not being met. Recognize when an issue is related to training versus employee performance or conduct. Assist with onboarding, training, and continued employee development. Address routine employee concerns within the authority of the position and communicate significant or recurring performance concerns to the Facility Director. Help develop Staff Leads into stronger, more independent leaders. Recognize and reinforce strong performance. Protect Exceptional Pet Care Ensure every pet receives safe, attentive, compassionate, and individualized care. Monitor feeding, medications, documentation, daycare safety, sanitation, enrichment, and overall pet well-being. Recognize changes in pet health, behavior, or comfort and ensure appropriate action is taken. Ensure concerns are documented, communicated, and followed through appropriately. Deliver the Tails R' Waggin' Client Experience Provide warm, confident, professional, and knowledgeable client communication. Handle routine client questions and concerns independently. Assist with more difficult client situations while protecting both the client relationship and company policies. Ensure client concerns receive appropriate follow-through. Support Facility Management Assist the Facility Director with staffing coverage, scheduling, inventory, facility needs, documentation, and implementation of company policies and procedures. Communicate operational, employee, client, pet, safety, or facility concerns objectively and promptly. Know when a situation can be handled independently and when involvement from the Facility Director is appropriate. Serve as the onsite operational leader when the Facility Director is not present. What We're Looking For Minimum 1-2 years of demonstrated team leadership or supervisory experience required. Professional experience in dog daycare, boarding, or a veterinary environment required. Ability to lead employees confidently, respectfully, and consistently. Strong coaching, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Ability to prioritize, delegate, make decisions, and follow through. Ability to maintain accountability even when conversations are uncomfortable. Strong judgment and ability to recognize when an issue requires management escalation. Professional client-service and conflict-resolution skills. Comfortable working hands-on with dogs of different sizes, breeds, temperaments, and activity levels. Reliable transportation and dependable attendance required. Weekend and holiday availability required. Schedule This is a full-time, hands-on management position. Weekday hours vary based on staffing and operational needs. The Assistant Manager is expected to participate in every-other-weekend leadership coverage with the Facility Director and maintain availability during holidays and peak boarding periods. Certifications & Professional Development Pet First Aid & CPR certification required within six months of hire. Fear Free certification required within six months of hire. Continued professional and leadership development opportunities may be available in accordance with company policy. Qualified applicants will be contacted to schedule an interview.
