Brief Description of Duties:
SUNY Morrisville is seeking a Facility Operations Assistant 1 to serve as a flexible member of the Facilities Management team. The incumbent will perform a combination of custodial, receiving and material-handling, grounds maintenance, moving, event-support, delivery, and general facilities duties based on departmental and campus needs. This position is intended to provide support across multiple Facilities operations rather than remain permanently assigned to one functional area. Assignments may change daily, seasonally, or for longer periods depending on workload, staffing, weather conditions, campus events, and operational priorities. Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to : Performs custodial duties in academic, administrative, residential, athletic, and other campus facilities, including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, stripping and waxing floors; cleaning and disinfecting restrooms and fixtures; emptying trash and recycling; dusting; and cleaning windows, walls, furniture, and equipment. Assembles cleaning carts, prepares and uses cleaning solutions in accordance with manufacturer instructions, and monitors custodial supplies and equipment. Receives, unloads, inspects, sorts, records, stores, and distributes packages, equipment, supplies, furniture, and other materials delivered to the College. Loads and unloads trucks and delivery vehicles by physically handling materials or using pallet jacks, hand trucks, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment. Tracks and documents the receipt, storage, movement, and delivery of packages and materials and obtains signatures or other proof of delivery when required. Organizes and maintains receiving, warehouse, storage, surplus, and staging areas. Assists truck drivers and motor vehicle operators with pickups and deliveries and may operate campus vehicles to deliver mail, packages, equipment, supplies, furniture, and other materials. Performs general grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, raking, leaf and debris removal, brush clearing, planting, mulching, soil preparation, road and sidewalk maintenance, and general landscape cleanup. Removes snow and ice from sidewalks, building entrances, roadways, loading areas, parking lots, and other campus surfaces and applies salt, sand, or other approved deicing materials. Operates self-propelled and motorized equipment, including lawn mowers, snowblowers, utility vehicles, small trucks, tractors, forklifts, electric pallet jacks, and light construction or grounds equipment, when properly trained and authorized. Moves and arranges furniture, office equipment, records, supplies, partitions, and other materials for office relocations, residence hall operations, meetings, conferences, special events, and campus activities. Sets up and removes tables, chairs, podiums, staging, barriers, signs, and related equipment for campus events and activities. Assists higher-level maintenance, grounds, custodial, receiving, and trades staff with routine unskilled and semiskilled work, including transporting materials, preparing work areas, erecting ladders, cleaning gutters and drains, removing construction debris, preparing surfaces for painting, digging, loading and unloading materials, and cleaning work areas following completion of work. Performs routine building-support tasks, such as changing lamps, unclogging toilets and sinks, reporting damaged equipment or unsafe conditions, and assisting with minor repairs under appropriate supervision. Inspects assigned areas and reports building deficiencies, safety hazards, vandalism, damaged property, equipment malfunctions, and other conditions requiring attention. Assists with surplus-property activities, including moving, staging, organizing, inventorying, loading, and disposing of furniture and equipment in accordance with College procedures. May perform basic office-related duties associated with assigned work, including entering or recording deliveries, filing, photocopying, maintaining inventories, preparing simple reports, and documenting labor, materials, equipment use, and completed work. Provides courteous assistance and information to students, employees, visitors, vendors, and delivery personnel. May lead or provide direction to student employees, temporary staff, volunteers, or other assigned workers by explaining tasks, distributing supplies and equipment, and demonstrating proper work methods. May be temporarily assigned to any Facilities Management work group when operationally necessary, provided the assigned duties are consistent with the Facility Operations Assistant 1 title.

Be physically able to perform the duties of the position, including repeated bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, climbing, and working indoors and outdoors under varying environmental and weather conditions. Be able to understand and carry out written and oral instructions. Possess and maintain a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the vehicles operated. Be able and willing to perform custodial, receiving, grounds, moving, delivery, event-support, and general facilities assignments based on campus operational needs. Be able to lift and move heavy supplies, packages, furniture, equipment, and materials independently or with appropriate assistance and material-handling equipment. Be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Be available to work alternate shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and emergency call-ins when required. Obtain and maintain required campus authorizations or certifications for equipment operation, including forklifts, pallet jacks, utility vehicles, or other assigned equipment.
