Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, this position supports the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of library buildings, grounds, equipment, and systems across the library system. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with building maintenance and repair, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently while responding to changing priorities. This position offers an opportunity to develop a broad range of facilities skills and provides a career ladder opportunity to Facilities Manager.
Building Maintenance & Repairs:
Perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair work throughout library facilities. Assist with painting, furniture and equipment assembly and repair, plumbing repairs, and other general building maintenance. Install light fixtures and replace bulbs as needed. Replace washers, faucets, and seals; repair leaky faucets and clean interior and exterior drains. Perform preventative maintenance on building hardware, electrical equipment, vehicles, and other assigned systems. Use Building Operating System software to troubleshoot building systems and make adjustments as needed. Assist with the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of building maintenance, housekeeping, groundskeeping, and repair projects
Grounds & Facility Care:
Perform grounds maintenance, including landscaping and seasonal maintenance. Remove snow and apply salt to sidewalks, steps, and entranceways. Help maintain clean, safe, and functional indoor and outdoor spaces throughout the library system. Empty exterior trash and monitor bathrooms, grounds, and other areas for cleanliness.
Vendors & Administrative Support:
Serve as a liaison with contractors and vendors as needed. Order supplies and create purchase orders. Travel between library branches to perform maintenance and repair duties. Complete assignments efficiently and accurately while managing multiple priorities.
Education & Experience:
High school diploma and a minimum of two years of custodial or maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Experience with low-pressure boilers is required. Valid Ohio driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Skills & Knowledge:
Knowledge and skills necessary to assemble, install, troubleshoot, and repair plumbing, electrical, and carpentry systems. Ability to operate tools and light equipment used for building and grounds maintenance. Ability to troubleshoot building systems and identify appropriate solutions. Ability to work independently and complete assignments from general instructions or established objectives. Strong planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks. Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with leadership, coworkers, contractors, vendors, and library customers. Ability to use computers, email, spreadsheets, databases, and other office technology and job-related equipment.

Work Location:
Work is performed at all Heights Libraries branches, both indoors and outdoors.
Schedule:
Flexible schedule required, including evenings and weekends.
Physical Demands:
Ability to stand for extended periods and regularly reach, bend, climb, squat, lift up to 50 pounds, and push up to 50 pounds. Ability to work at heights greater than 20 feet. Work may involve exposure to extreme weather conditions, cleaning chemicals, and other products used in building maintenance. Valid transportation and the ability to travel between library locations are required.

Salary:
Starting pay is $20.90 per hour, with final compensation commensurate with skills, experience, and qualifications, within our established pay range.
