Job Description
Creative Steps (Aurelia Foundation) |
Los Angeles:
Santa Monica (Main Office), Westlake Village, and Torrance Creative Steps is seeking a relationship-driven, entrepreneurial, development professional to lead and grow our local and regional fundraising efforts for four to six annual events. This is a highly visible, full-time role, responsible for generating visibility and sponsorships from local businesses and ticket sales. Responsibilities include working with & supervising the consulting firm hired for the annual gala, and the planning & execution of several smaller events. Also, additional campaigns must be conducted to increase giving. This is an ideal opportunity for a highly organized extrovert who enjoys building something meaningful, while staying close to the mission. About Creative Steps Creative Steps is a highly respected, community-based nonprofit supporting adults with moderate to severe developmental disabilities. Through individualized programming, we help participants build skills, find purpose, and engage meaningfully in their communities. Our programs span job support, volunteerism, fitness and recreation, entertainment, and social development across three Los Angeles-area locations.
The position is a hybrid job-onsite and remote- with a three-month introductory period that will take place onsite at the Santa Monica office. The Opportunity This is a stand-alone development role with real ownership. You will partner closely with the CEO and senior leadership to shape strategy—and take the lead on executing it. Success in this role means building strong local relationships, delivering well-run and engaging events, and creating consistent, thoughtful donor experiences that grow support over time. Your impeccable integrity, ethics and excellence is a reflection of the organization you serve-Creative Steps. Key Responsibilities
Designing and implementing fundraising events, from concept and budget forecasting through follow-up thank yous and surveys
Securing sponsorships and ticket sales for those events
Build campaigns within Regional Center parameters and manage relationships with donors, ensuring timely communication, stewardship, and ongoing engagement
Develop and expand giving from local businesses, service organizations (e.g., Chambers, Rotary, Kiwanis), and community groups
Maintain accurate records and track activity using nonprofit CRM tools.
Collaborate with program staff to authentically tell the Creative Steps story and connect donors to impact.
Interact with board members and volunteers What You Bring
3-5 years of fundraising experience (background in developmental disability services is a plus, but not required)
Demonstrated ability to create and implement basic event budgeting, manage event volunteers, cultivate donors, and build community partnerships
Strong communication skills, including compelling writing and confident interpersonal engagement
Comfort working independently while collaborating with a small, mission-driven team
Facility with nonprofit systems and tools (CRM, email marketing platforms, etc.)
A proactive, organized approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities What Success Looks Like
Well-executed events that deepen engagement and generate revenue.
Growing relationships with local businesses and community partners.
Consistent, personalized donor communication and retention.
Increased visibility and support for Creative Steps across the communities we serve.
Growth and Support This is not a senior leadership role, but it is a high-impact one with room to grow. You will receive strategic guidance from leadership while having ownership over implementation. Discretionary bonus potential. Advancement and compensation growth are tied to performance and results. FTE salary range from $71,000 to $75,000. Initial on-site work in Santa Monica for at least three months, then remote or hybrid work. Position reports to the CEO, the President, and also the Chief Operating Officer of Creative Steps. How to Apply Please email your resume and a cover letter explaining your interest in the role, highlighting your fundraising experience, and describing how your skills, experience, and community relationships would benefit Creative Steps and help advance our fundraising goals. Your cover letter is an opportunity to showcase your communication style and approach. Please send your application to Bob Charney, CEO, at bob@aurelia-cs.org.
