Our vision is to increase children's potential to become emotionally healthy adults through fostering their sense of hope and empowerment. The Development Director will confidently represent the organization throughout the Triad to donors and donor prospects, philanthropic entities, the corporate community, community organizations, and charitable foundations. Role Description The Development Director plays a key leadership role in advancing CLC's mission through strategic oversight of the organization's development efforts. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position is responsible for the creation and execution of comprehensive fundraising, marketing, and communications strategies This position provides direct supervision to development focused Board Committees, development interns, and volunteers, fostering a collaborative environment that emphasizes accountability, innovation, and excellence. The Director will also work closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and and community stakeholders to strengthen organizational capacity, sustainability, and visibility. Duties and Responsibilities Fund Development and External Relations Lead and implement a comprehensive annual fundraising plan with measurable short- and long-term goals across individual, corporate, and institutional giving. Manage and grow donor relationships through stewardship, cultivation, and solicitation strategies that increase engagement and giving levels. Oversee planning and execution of special events, including CLC's signature fundraising event, sponsorship initiatives, and community outreach activities. Research, identify, write, and pursue public and private grant opportunities, ensuring timely and high-quality submissions and reports. Develop and oversee the creation of all external communication materials, including newsletters, social media content, press releases, presentations, and website updates. Represent CLC confidently to philanthropic entities, corporate partners, and the broader community to enhance visibility and brand alignment. Communications and Brand Management Supervise the organization's communications strategy to ensure consistent messaging and brand integrity across all platforms. Manage digital presence including website, social media, and email marketing tools to engage and grow supporter audiences. Manage development, production, and distribution of all printed program and promotional materials. Collaborate with program staff to collect and share impact stories, metrics, and testimonials that advance CLC's mission-driven storytelling. Leadership and Team Development Supervise, mentor, and evaluate development focused Board Committees, development interns, and volunteers supporting fundraising and communications initiatives. Recruit and train interns and volunteers to assist with events, donor stewardship, communications, and data entry. Promote a collaborative, mission-driven culture emphasizing integrity, efficiency, and continuous learning. Partner with the Executive Director and Board leadership to set organizational priorities and monitor progress toward annual goals. Qualifications Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or CFRE certification preferred. 3+ years of progressive experience in nonprofit development, marketing, or operations management. Proven track record in fundraising strategy, donor cultivation, and external communications. Familiarity with nonprofit accounting, CRM systems, and data management best practices. Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including public speaking and community engagement. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Canva, Adobe, and donor database software (NewOrg preferred). Exceptional judgment, organization, and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail. Compensation Salary is commensurate with experience. Salary Range $68,000 - $75,000 Benefits include health insurance, life insurance, dental/vision insurance, flexible working environment (hybrid remote / in-person) and generous vacation offering. Working Conditions Full-time, exempt position based in Winston Salem, NC Occasional evening or weekend hours required for events. Use of personal vehicle for work-related travel.
