Job Description

Overview The Historical Society of Idaho Springs (HSIS) operates and maintains the History Museum, Underhill Museum, several historic hose houses, and the Idaho Springs Visitor Center. Sales at the Visitor Center gift shop are the primary revenue source for the Society. Other revenue sources include donations, memberships, grants, and income from special events. The Business Manager is the lead staff of HSIS, responsible for the effective management and oversight of the organization's day-to-day business operations. The Business Manager also serves as a key HSIS ambassador to the public and community. This position works closely with the Board of Trustees to implement strategic goals and ensure the Society's long-term sustainability. The primary place of work is at the Visitors Center.
Key Responsibilities Include:
General Management Human resource management Museum, retail, and rental operations Facility management and procurement General Management Plan, budget, execute, monitor and report on HSIS programs Communicate regularly and transparently with the Board on programs, projects, and strategic initiatives. Provide accurate, timely information and reports for Board meetings and governance decisions. Attend monthly Board meetings. Review and suggest updates to policies, procedures, practices and standards. Human Resources Management Manage recruitment, hiring, training, and retention of paid and volunteer staff. Create and maintain monthly work schedules. Process bi-weekly payroll and ensure HR compliance. Promote team-building and a positive workplace culture. Budget and Accounting Collaborate with the Treasurer to prepare and finalize the annual budget. Monitor monthly income and expenses against the budget. Retail Operations Management Oversee retail sales at the Visitor Center, including cash handling and reporting. Maintain accurate weekly sales and deposit records. Utilize the POS system for transactions, reporting, and staff training. Manages retail product selection and procurement including consignee quarterly payments. Facilities Management Monitor facilities and identify maintenance or safety needs. Oversee fire/security systems, utilities, and waste management. Coordinate with contractors and staff to implement improvements and repairs. Procurement Support Make small-scale purchases for operations and maintenance. Track purchases and maintain supply inventory. Office Rental Management Manage upstairs office rentals, including advertising, lease agreements, rent collection and tenant communications.
Pay:
$27.00 - $32.50 per hour
