Company Overview Bloomington Developmental Learning Center is a vibrant, multi-cultural child care facility on the south east side of Bloomington, Indiana dedicated to nurturing each child that comes through our door. Through a play-based curriculum, we foster emotional, social, and cognitive growth for children from six weeks to five years old. Job Overview The Executive Director administers and manages the high-quality child care program at BDLC, a not-for-profit organization, which has been in existence for more than 50 years. The Director provides vision and leadership for staff, under the supervision of the Board of Directors, to meet long-term goals and maintain the fiscal integrity of the Center. This role reports to the President of the Board. The Executive Director has the following responsibilities: 1. Organizational Leadership & Culture Vision and leadership: Provide clear leadership and direction for the organization by setting priorities, aligning people and resources, and fostering a culture that supports children, families, staff, and the long-term success of BDLC.
Communication, Collaboration & Support:
Support staff and families in navigating concerns, challenges, and transitions; Foster open communication, collaboration, and mutual respect across the organization; Address conflicts constructively and help teams navigate difficult situations in a productive and professional manner; Partner with the Office Administrator and Curriculum Coordinators to align priorities, solve problems, and support staff and families.
Board, Family & Community Engagement :
Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with families, Board members, and community partners; Partner with the Board by providing timely organizational updates, participating in Board meetings, and supporting effective governance and decision-making; Build and maintain positive relationships with community partners, professional organizations, and the broader Bloomington community to support BDLC's mission and long-term success.
Team Culture & Staff Engagement :
Foster a positive, collaborative culture that supports staff retention, professional growth, and organizational success; Lead regular staff meetings to communicate priorities, organizational updates, and opportunities for feedback and discussion; Recognize staff contributions and create an environment where people feel valued, supported, and connected to BDLC's mission. 2.
Operations & Administration Program Operations & Administrative Systems :
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the program, ensuring classrooms, facilities, and administrative systems operate effectively; Provide oversight and supervision of administrative systems and recordkeeping, ensuring required documentation and records are accurately maintained in accordance with BDLC policy and licensing requirements
Financial & Enrollment Management:
In collaboration with BDLC's finance committee, oversee program finances such as budgeting, purchasing, and financial reporting; Monitor enrollment and waitlist processes to support program capacity and financial stability
Policy & Process Improvement :
In collaboration with the BDLC administrative team, implement program policies and procedures consistently, ensuring teachers and staff understand and follow established expectations; In collaboration with the BDLC board of directors, regularly evaluate program processes to identify opportunities for improvement 3.
Lead recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and training of qualified staff; Address performance concerns consistently and in accordance with BDLC's policies and employment requirements; Create and monitor staffing schedules and classroom coverage to ensure appropriate ratios are consistently met; Partner with Curriculum Coordinators to develop, evaluate, and support staff as they grow into new roles and responsibilities.
Licensing & Regulatory Compliance :
Maintain compliance with Indiana state licensing regulations, Paths to Quality standards, and BDLC policies; Monitor changes in Indiana state licensing regulations and communicate relevant changes to appropriate staff and the BDLC board of directors; Identify and address compliance concerns proactively
Strategic Planning & Risk Management :
Anticipate future organizational needs and develop strategies that support continuity and stability; Identify emerging risks that may affect children, families, staff, finances, or BDLC's ability to operate effectively; In collaboration with the BDLC board of directors, develop and maintain plans that support the long-term stability and success of the program
Qualifications:
As outlined by Indiana Licensing regulations, the Executive Director shall meet one (1) of the following minimum education and experience qualifications: (1) A bachelor of arts or bachelor of science degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education or elementary education with a kindergarten endorsement and grades of C or better. (2) Any bachelor of arts or bachelor of science degree from an accredited college or university must include one of the following: (A) Fifteen credit hours in college level courses with documented content relating to the needs, skills, development, or teaching methods of children six years of age or younger and grades of C or better. (B) A CDA. (3) A two year associate's degree in early childhood education from an accredited college or university, with a grade of C or better and a minimum of three years of experience in an early childhood program. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of experience in an early childhood program and at least two years experience in running a child care center and/or other social service agency; this experience should include directly supervising staff and planning and implementing a budget. It is highly desirable for the Executive Director to have prior experience in obtaining grants and fundraising.

$55,000-$65,000/year
