Job Description

Position Summary A well established family owned and operated RV dealership is seeking an experienced General Manager to oversee its overall performance and day-to-day operations at a new location in Monroeville, NJ. This position provides leadership across sales, finance and insurance, service, parts, rentals, administration, and customer care while working closely with the executive leadership team and departmental leadership. The General Manager is expected to build a culture of accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and exceptional customer service. This position is responsible for achieving financial and operational objectives, developing employees and managers, maintaining appropriate staffing levels, protecting dealership assets, and ensuring that operations comply with company policies and applicable laws. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Leadership and Dealership Operations Provide leadership and direction for all dealership departments and help ensure that each department works toward common company objectives. Translate the goals and direction established by the executive leadership team into clear operational priorities. Hold department managers accountable for results, employee performance, customer satisfaction, and compliance with company policies. Promote cooperation and effective communication among sales, F&I, service, parts, rentals, administration, and other support functions. Conduct regular management meetings to review performance, address operational issues, and establish action plans. Maintain a visible presence throughout the dealership and remain accessible to employees, managers, and customers. Identify operational problems and implement practical, sustainable solutions. Support dealership growth, facility improvements, and continuous-improvement initiatives. Financial Performance Review financial statements, departmental reports, sales results, expense reports, and other performance information. Monitor revenue, gross profit, net profit, inventory levels, labor productivity, departmental expenses, and other key performance indicators. Work with department managers to establish performance goals and corrective action plans when results fall below expectations. Control operating expenses while maintaining appropriate staffing, service levels, and customer experience. Protect dealership assets and promote proper cash-handling, purchasing, inventory-control, and approval procedures. Evaluate business opportunities based on expected financial return, operational impact, and alignment with dealership goals. Sales and F&I Oversight Support the development and execution of sales strategies designed to achieve unit, revenue, gross-profit, and customer-satisfaction goals. Monitor new and used RV inventory, aging, pricing, merchandising, and inventory-turn objectives. Review sales activity, lead management, closing ratios, customer traffic, and salesperson performance. Ensure customers receive accurate, professional, and consistent information throughout the sales process. Oversee F&I performance and help ensure that financing, product presentation, contracting, and disclosure practices comply with applicable requirements. Promote ethical sales practices and prohibit deceptive, misleading, discriminatory, or high-pressure conduct. Service Parts and Rental Oversight Work with service and parts leadership to improve repair-cycle time, technician productivity, parts availability, customer communication, and departmental profitability. Promote effective scheduling, repair-order management, warranty administration, quality control, and follow-up procedures. Support technician recruitment, training, certification, apprenticeship, and career-development programs. Ensure that pre-delivery inspections, customer walk-throughs, and vehicle handoffs are completed thoroughly and consistently. Monitor parts inventory, obsolete inventory, purchasing practices, and internal parts usage. Oversee rental operations, where applicable, including fleet condition, customer service, scheduling, and regulatory compliance. Help resolve significant or recurring service, parts, warranty, and customer-care issues. Customer Experience Establish and maintain high standards of customer service throughout every department. Monitor customer feedback, online reviews, complaints, and customer-satisfaction results. Personally assist with serious or escalated customer concerns when appropriate. Ensure complaints are investigated promptly, documented appropriately, and resolved fairly. Identify recurring customer concerns and implement changes to address their underlying causes. Promote long-term customer relationships, repeat business, referrals, and a positive dealership reputation. Employee Management and Development Partner with Human Resources and department managers to recruit, select, onboard, train, develop, and retain qualified employees. Maintain appropriate staffing levels based on business needs, seasonality, productivity, and budget requirements. Set clear expectations and provide managers with regular coaching, feedback, and performance direction. Ensure employee evaluations and disciplinary actions are handled consistently and properly documented. Support succession planning and leadership development throughout the dealership. Promote a respectful workplace free from discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and other inappropriate conduct. Address workplace conflicts promptly and involve Human Resources when appropriate. Follow established authorization and documentation procedures for hiring, compensation changes, promotions, discipline, and termination decisions. Encourage employee engagement, accountability, recognition, and professional development. Compliance and Risk Management Ensure dealership operations comply with applicable federal, state, and local requirements. Work with Human Resources, accounting, legal counsel, and other company representatives on employment, safety, licensing, consumer-finance, privacy, environmental, and regulatory matters. Ensure required licenses, registrations, records, postings, inspections, and training are maintained. Support compliance with wage-and-hour requirements, equal-employment-opportunity obligations, background-check procedures, workplace-safety standards, and company policies. Promote accurate recordkeeping and the timely completion of required reports. Protect confidential employee, customer, financial, and company information. Ensure customer and employee information is accessed, used, stored, and disposed of appropriately. Promptly report significant accidents, injuries, customer disputes, legal claims, suspected fraud, regulatory contacts, or other material risks to executive leadership and the appropriate company representative. Cooperate with audits, investigations, inspections, and corrective-action efforts. Safety and Facilities Promote a strong safety culture and hold managers and employees accountable for safe work practices. Ensure workplace injuries, vehicle accidents, hazards, and near misses are reported and investigated promptly. Support compliance with safety requirements involving shop equipment, ladders, fall protection, lockout/tagout, propane, personal protective equipment, housekeeping, and emergency procedures. Monitor the appearance, cleanliness, security, and condition of dealership buildings, lots, displays, equipment, and customer areas. Coordinate necessary maintenance and repairs and recommend facility improvements to executive leadership. Help ensure company vehicles, tools, equipment, keys, inventory, and other assets are properly controlled and maintained. Performance Expectations The General Manager's performance may be evaluated using factors including: Overall dealership profitability and achievement of budgeted objectives New and used RV sales performance Departmental gross profit and expense control Inventory aging and turnover Service productivity, efficiency, and repair-cycle time Parts performance and inventory control Customer-satisfaction results and complaint resolution Employee turnover, staffing stability, and leadership development Compliance with company policies and legal requirements Workplace safety and loss prevention Completion of assigned projects and operational improvements Cooperation and communication with executive leadership and departmental leaders Qualifications Significant management experience in an RV, automotive, powersports, marine, equipment, or similar dealership environment is strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience managing multiple departments and holding managers accountable for operational and financial results. Working knowledge of dealership sales, F&I, service, parts, inventory, and customer-care operations. Ability to read and interpret financial statements, budgets, departmental reports, and performance metrics. Strong leadership, communication, organization, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. Ability to handle employee and customer concerns professionally and confidentially. Comfortable using dealership-management systems, customer-management systems, Microsoft Office, email, and other business technology. Ability to manage competing priorities and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. High level of integrity, professionalism, judgment, and personal accountability. Valid driver's license and driving record acceptable under company requirements. High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree or relevant professional education preferred. Work Schedule and Travel This position requires flexibility based on dealership needs. The General Manager may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, special events, open houses, and other hours outside the normal business schedule. Occasional travel to other company locations, training programs, industry events, manufacturer meetings, and business functions may be required. Physical and Work Environment Requirements The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. The position regularly involves sitting, standing, walking, speaking, listening, using a computer, and moving throughout offices, showrooms, service areas, storage areas, and outdoor sales lots. The employee may occasionally be exposed to weather conditions, vehicle traffic, shop noise, fumes, dust, and other conditions commonly found in a dealership environment.
