Job Description

General Manager — Build the Future of Friend Equipment This is not a caretaker role. This is a chance to lead, modernize, and grow a respected Dallas/Fort Worth service business. Friend Equipment is looking for a hands-on General Manager who can step into a trusted family-owned company, strengthen the team, sharpen operations, and help carry the business into its next chapter of growth. About Friend Equipment Friend Equipment sells, installs, rebuilds, maintains, and services balers, trash compactors, dock equipment, hydraulic systems, welding needs, and electrical controls for national retailers and local businesses across the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.
Our advantage is simple:
experienced technicians, long-standing customer relationships, and a reputation built on quality workmanship. The Opportunity This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who wants more than a title. The General Manager will have the opportunity to influence the way the business runs every day: improving communication, building accountability, supporting technicians, strengthening customer relationships, and creating a more scalable operation for the future. You will work directly with ownership, see the results of your decisions, and help build a company people are proud to work for. What You'll Lead
  • Daily service, installation, maintenance, rebuild, and repair operations
  • Scheduling, emergency service response, and customer communication
  • A small, skilled team of technicians, installers, and support staff
  • Fleet, tools, parts inventory, vendors, shop needs, and operating resources
  • Preventative maintenance programs and repeat service opportunities
  • Customer follow-up, service estimates, job status updates, and issue resolution
  • Performance tracking, cost control, budget analysis and forecasting
  • Safety culture, training, process improvement, and service quality
  • Regular business updates for ownership What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years of operations, service, fleet, equipment, industrial maintenance, recycling, waste, construction, logistics, or related leadership experience
  • Strong people leadership with the ability to coach, hold teams accountable, and build trust
  • Comfort managing schedules, customer priorities, budgets, vendors, and urgent service needs
  • Mechanical, equipment service, hydraulic, electrical, welding, baler, compactor, or dock equipment experience preferred
  • Ability to read the room, solve problems quickly, and communicate clearly with customers and technicians
  • Experience improving workflow, response times, safety habits, and team accountability
  • A practical, problem-solving mindset and the desire to help a family-owned business grow the right way Compensation Salary is based on experience, skill level, leadership ability, and industry knowledge.
The right candidate will have room to grow with the business as performance, responsibility, and results increase. Why Friend Equipment and Why This Role Stands Out Friend Equipment offers the kind of opportunity many larger competitors cannot: direct influence, faster decisions, visible results, and a real voice in how the business grows. Instead of being buried in layers of management, the right General Manager can shape service standards, strengthen customer loyalty, improve profitability, and build the next generation of leadership. The market is competitive, with companies offering equipment sales, leasing, repair networks, preventative maintenance, hauling advisory, and industrial service support. Friend Equipment's edge is personal service, technical know-how, longstanding relationships, and the chance for the right leader to turn those strengths into the company's next phase of growth. Call to Action If you are ready to lead from the front, build trust with a skilled team, solve real operational challenges, and help drive a respected family-owned company into the future, we want to talk with you. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
