Chief Development Officer Description:

The Grant Coordinator works independently with a high degree of autonomy and is responsible for researching, writing, editing and submitting complex, multi-year and high-dollar proposals for the agency, including; Foundation, Government, Project, General Operating, Capital, Capacity-Building, Corporate Grants and any additional funding sources that require proposals. This position requires a thorough understanding of the organization's programs, including property needs, target populations, outcomes, and objectives at a deep level in order to locate and secure funding. This position collaborates with the Finance and Program teams on complex budgets and is responsible for ensuring data quality is met for grants. This position is required to attend grant presentations, ceremonies and works with the Program Supervisors to ensure program needs are being communicated. The Grant Coordinator must be able to adequately provide data driven impact, keep abreast of emerging research, evidence-based practices, and innovations in homelessness services to strengthen grant proposals, and ensure alignment with current funding priorities and industry standards.

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Marketing, or Social Services or related fields, plus 2-4 years of successful grant application experience.

Certifications:

While not required, preference given to those who are Grant Professional Certified (GPC) through the Grant Professionals Certification Institute, or a Certified Grant Writer (CGW). OR A minimum of 6-8 years of experience in grant writing, grant management and non-profit fundraising. Demonstrated success in researching, writing, and securing proposals from government agencies.

Preferred experience working within the homelessness or affordable housing sector and a strong understanding of homelessness services, fair housing laws, and reasonable accommodation requirements. Responsibilities:

1. Maintain trainings in suicide risk assessment, mandatory child and dependent adult abuse and neglect reporting, crisis intervention, and civil rights, housing discrimination, harm reduction, trauma informed care and housing first practices. Should work to foster strong professional relationships both internally and externally. Keep up to date on state and federal regulations regarding grants, best practices and upcoming changes to code. Adhere to HHSI's agency values in all aspects of work. 2. Grant Writing Identify viable grant opportunities, analyze funder guidelines, and assess our organization's grant readiness. Write compelling, structured narratives—including executive summaries, statements of need, goals, and evaluation plans. Provide a data-driven impact. Manage multiple deadlines, coordinate with various departments, and assemble supplementary materials (ie. letters of support, organizational documents) and submit grant requests. Stay informed about modern, creative strategies being used nationwide to combat housing instability. Takes the lead on writing, editing, and submitting complex, multi-year, and high-dollar proposals (e.g., federal or large corporate grants). Collaborates with finance and program teams on complex budgets and manages the end-to-end grant lifecycle. Develop detailed grant budgets, execute post-award compliance reports, and manage submission deadlines to secure continuous funding. Identify and vet potential funding sources across government agencies, corporate foundations, and private trusts. Evaluate whether a specific Request for Proposal (RFP) or foundation priority genuinely aligns with the organization's strategic mission. 3. Grant Compliance Duties Tracking the lifecycle of awarded funds, including strict monitoring of deliverables. Create a monthly report from the grant department that can be shared with the Board of Directors. Draft post-award compliance reports (financial and narrative) detailing how grant money was utilized to satisfy funder guidelines. Serve as a point of contact for all federal and foundation grants, especially related to yearly audit needs. Work closely with the Grants Compliance and Data Coordinator to ensure all reports are submitted on time; expenses are tracked appropriately and that a bi-monthly report is prepared for the board of directors. Collaborate with finance teams to develop, document, and monitor accurate grant budgets and financial reports. Assists in grant payout forecasts with the Chief Financial Officer, Chief Development Officer, and Chief Program Officer to meet grant obligations, legal requirements, program goals and Agency wish list. Maintain a master grant calendar to track Letters of Inquiry (LOIs), proposal submissions, and pending reporting deadlines. Prepare and submit all required fiscal and programmatic reports for federal, state, local, and private foundation grants, ensuring compliance with grant requirements and reporting deadlines. Ensure compliance with all contract requirements and any audit recommendations for grant related needs. Partner with organizational leaders and follow-up on external programmatic audit reports and assist in the development of corrective action plans and organizational responses. 4. Other Duties Maintain current knowledge of evidence-based practices and local, federal, and state policy initiatives and legislation relevant to agency programs and services. Organize complex strategic projects into manageable projects with clear implementation steps, timelines, budgets, and other resources and shares with necessary staff. Regularly promotes the agencies' mission and advocates for social justice. Attend mandatory agency meetings. Participates in agency development functions and other events supporting the mission of the agency. Performs other duties, as needed.

Schedule:

Full-Time . Must be able to work 36 hours per week. Hours are generally Monday through Friday, must have weekend and night availability to cover events and/award ceremonies.
