General Laborer Hildale LLC Detroit, MI Job Details Full-time $16 - $24 an hour 9 hours ago Benefits Opportunities for advancement Qualifications Sweeping Outdoor work experience Materials handling Mechanical knowledge Load & unload Full Job Description Job Overview We are looking for a reliable, hardworking individual to join our team as a General Laborer at our scrap metal transfer station. This is a hands-on, physically demanding position working primarily outdoors in a fast-paced industrial environment. No previous experience is required. We are willing to train the right person who has a strong work ethic, is dependable, mechanically inclined, and is interested in building a long-term career with the company. The position starts at $16-$24 per hour , depending on experience and qualifications, with a regular schedule of Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM-3:30 PM . Employees who learn the laborer responsibilities, demonstrate reliability, and show the ability and interest to operate equipment may have the opportunity to train on a wheel loader, material handler, and forklift after approximately 3-9 months. Responsibilities Sort and separate different types of scrap metal and materials. Assist equipment operators with rail cars, material handling, and sorting operations. Work safely around moving rail cars, heavy equipment, and industrial machinery. Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards. Sweep and clean shop and work areas. Clean and maintain bathrooms and other common areas. Clean up spills, debris, and other messes as needed. Load, move, and handle materials as directed. Assist other employees and operators with daily yard and facility operations. Follow all company safety procedures and instructions. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and clothing for the work being performed. Work safely and effectively in both hot summer weather and cold winter conditions. Perform other general labor and facility duties as needed. Physical & Work Environment Requirements This is a physically demanding, outdoor industrial position.
Candidates must be comfortable:
Working outdoors in both hot and cold weather. Standing and walking for the majority of the workday. Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds . Frequently bending, stooping, reaching, and performing physical labor. Climbing ladders and working around industrial equipment. Working around loud machinery and heavy equipment. Working safely around moving rail cars and other industrial operations. Wearing appropriate clothing and footwear for outdoor and industrial work conditions. Skills & Qualifications No previous experience required — we are willing to train the right person. Must be reliable and consistently able to report to work Monday-Friday. Must have reliable transportation to and from work. Strong work ethic and willingness to work hard. Ability to follow directions and safety procedures. Ability to work well independently and as part of a team. Mechanical aptitude or an interest in learning to operate heavy equipment is a plus. Good attitude and willingness to learn. Ability to work safely in a busy industrial environment. Desire to build a long-term career and take on additional responsibilities. Advancement Opportunities This position provides an opportunity to learn the operation and day-to-day responsibilities of a scrap metal transfer station. Employees who demonstrate strong attendance, reliability, safety awareness, a good work ethic, and the ability to learn the job may have the opportunity to receive additional training and advance into equipment operation.

Pay:
$16.00 - $24.00 per hour Application Question(s): This position requires working outdoors year-round, including hot summer weather and cold winter weather.
