Job Description The Logistics Operations Specialist provides after-hours and weekend operational support for a fleet of approximately 52 drivers. This role combines scheduled in-office shifts with remote on-call availability. The specialist monitors shipments, maintains system information, responds to drivers and customers, and uses available company resources to resolve time-sensitive truck, trailer, and load issues. Roles & Responsibilities Load and system management: Build loads accurately, update customer portals and the transportation management system (TMS), and maintain current trailer-location information.
Tracking and tracing:
Monitor active shipments, document status updates, and communicate delays, service issues, or other exceptions to the appropriate parties.
Dispatch support:
Assist dispatchers during scheduled office hours and provide continuity of operations during nights and weekends.
Driver and customer communication:
Answer the after-hours phone, monitor email, and provide timely, professional support to drivers and customers.
Issue resolution:
Troubleshoot truck, trailer, and load issues using established procedures and available resources, including breakdown coordination and escalation when needed.
Documentation and handoff:
Record actions taken and provide clear updates to the daytime operations team regarding unresolved or significant issues. Work Schedule Scheduled in-office hours (21 hours per week):
Friday:
either 12:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.
Saturday:
8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
Sunday:
8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
Monday:
8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Remote weekend on-call availability Monitor the after-hours support line from Friday at 5:00 p.m. until the Monday in-office shift begins at 8:00 a.m. Routine calls may be received until 10:00 p.m.; calls after 10:00 p.m. are expected to be limited to urgent or emergency matters. Typical call volume is up to 10 calls per night across the 52-driver fleet; volume may vary based on operational needs. The employee must remain reachable, have reliable phone and internet access, and respond within the company's required response time. Compensation $20.00 per hour for 21 scheduled in-office hours. $200.00 flat weekend on-call supplement. Required Qualifications Commercial trucking or freight-operations experience involving Class 8 tractor-trailers is required; experience limited to passenger transportation, rideshare, or light-delivery vehicles does not qualify. Knowledge of freight dispatch, load building, tracking and tracing, TMS/customer portals, and common tractor-trailer issues. Experience supporting OTR drivers, communicating with customers, and coordinating breakdowns or other urgent situations. Strong communication, documentation, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Dependable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently while remaining calm under pressure. Reliable phone and internet access during remote on-call coverage.
