Job Overview This position is responsible for providing staff support duties for SLCSD's transportation system. The work involves being a liaison with administration, public, parents, schools and fleet drivers to facilitate proper operation of the transportation program. The work further involves dispatching and relaying messages to drivers, maintaining a database and related clerical functions. The work is performed under general supervision in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
Records daily hours for fleet drivers; Assists in scheduling fleet of drivers for trips; Asssts in assigning pick up/drop off sites, transfer points, etc; Aids in creating detailed fleet routes; Assists clients with transportation related problems such as walk/ride, pick up time explaining denials of special requests, processing fleet stop changes, etc.; In the school system, the incumbent works with individual schools in the district to provide information relative to fleet vehicle activities such as notification of new students, kindergarten half-day sessions, walk/ride problems and special situations; Maintains related files, prepares and disseminates reports, correspondence, bus passes, etc.; Maintains a variety of records and reports related to the work; Updates computerized transportation information to record, edit, store and rerieve corespondence reports and other data; Updates transportation routes, maps and schedules; Maintains transportation database including database manipulation; Instructs other staff on proper use and retrieval of transportation computerized data; Relays messages to and from fleet drivers using two-channel radios; Attempts to resolve road problems concerning buses, drivers and passengers via radio in absence of supervisor in charge; Assists fleet drivers with day-to-day activities such as notifying of additional stops, re-routing information and locating passengers; Full performance, knowledge, skills, abilities, and personal characteristics: Good knowledge of the requirements of New York State Education Department, NYS Department of Transportation and the NYS Motor Vehicle Departments in relation to fleet drivers; Good knowledge of office technology, procedures and equipment; Working knowledge of the employer's practices and policies regarding fleet routing, pick-up, drop-off, attendance, etc.; Working knowledge of the geographic area of the fleet routes related to transpotation concerns; Ability to communicate effectively; Ability to establish a rapport with others for the purpose of obtaining or conveying information; Ability to prepare written reports; Ability to follow directions; thoroughness, dependability and good judgment.
Minimum Qualifictions:
Graduation from High School or possession of an equivalency Diploma Two yeas of office clerical experience Drivers License, CDL preferred. If candidate does not possess a CDL, then willingness to obtain preferred.
Pay:
$47,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
