Board of Directors About the Organization Rooted directly in our local neighborhood, we are a community-focused social services agency dedicated to building community resilience by addressing food insecurity, navigating housing options, teaching personal finance, coaching career opportunities, training on overdose recognition and response. Position Overview We are seeking a passionate, community-grounded Executive Director to lead our agency into its next chapter of impact. As the leader of a nimble organization comprised of full- and part-time staff plus volunteers, the Executive Director is a hands-on leader who bridges strategic vision with direct community connection. The ideal candidate blends strong grant-writing skills with deep field experience. You will spend roughly 60% of your time on-site and in the neighborhood—working alongside staff, volunteers, and clients—and 40% of your time cultivating donors, securing grant opportunities, and building strategic alliances across the San Francisco Bay Area. Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Fundraising & Resource Development Lead fundraising initiatives to establish a diversified, broad donor base to maintain and, over time, grow the agency's operating budget Identify, apply for, and manage grant opportunities using grant management platforms With assistance from Board members, cultivate relationships with local philanthropic foundations, family trusts, and individual donors throughout the Bay Area Partner closely with the Board of Directors on stewardship and community outreach Operational Leadership & Organizational Culture Provide supportive, transparent leadership to a small team of full-time and part-time staff and community volunteers across all core initiatives Foster an internal environment built on trust, safety, and clear communication to strengthen the agency's human fabric Manage staff operational capacity and develop service delivery skills and operational workflows Lead organizational development initiatives including staff training, team management strategies, and program expansion efforts Ensure financial sustainability, sound budget management, and operational compliance Organizational Partnerships & Stakeholder Engagement Build strong collaborative partnerships with local organizations (e.g., food distribution partners, faith-based organizations, and university social work programs) to align service delivery with community needs and identify joint funding streams Establish effective working relationships with city and county jurisdictions across the Bay Area (e.g., public health, homelessness, food security, child care, and violence prevention agencies) Act as the primary spokesperson and advocate for the agency and the surrounding neighborhood Program Oversight and Management Direct food pantry operations and logistics Maintain an up-to-date grant application calendar that is shared regularly with the Board for review Oversee day-to-day operations and ensure staff members are effectively completing their job duties and providing high-quality service to the community Manage program execution in compliance with grant requirements, including filing reports in a timely manner with grantors Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations pertaining to social services agencies Manage the operating budget and monitor financial health, ensure proper resource allocation aligned with organizational goals File all pertinent local, state and federal tax forms in compliance with non-profit business requirements Qualifications and Experience Degree in Social Work (BSW/MSW) or Public Policy (MPP/MPA) required Minimum of 12 years relevant experience working within a social services non-profit agency, of which at least 3 years must have been in a senior role (e.g., Executive Director, Associate Executive Director, Chief Program Officer) Knowledge of legal regulations governing social services agencies Multiple years of hands-on experience working directly with clients experiencing poverty, homelessness, crisis, or food insecurity. Demonstrated supervisory experience in managing social service program staff Experience with online grant management platforms systems Familiarity with Bay Area city and county agencies including violence prevention, food security, homelessness, and public health Administrative experience overseeing budgets, compliance protocols, program development initiatives, and organizational policies Multilingual abilities are highly desirable Knowledge of Bay Area philanthropic networks, local family trusts are highly desirable Excellent writing and presentation skills
