Sacramento Mountains Foundation

Executive Director

Job Description

The Sacramento Mountains Foundation is leading a community effort to establish a new nonprofit foundation dedicated to promoting and supporting the Alamogordo Public Schools—and is seeking a founding Executive Director to bring it to life. This is a rare chance to build an organization from the ground up: to shape its culture, set its priorities, and establish it as a lasting source of support for public education in our community. About the New Foundation The foundation will exist to promote and support the Alamogordo Public Schools—to celebrate the accomplishments of the district's students and educators, to provide resources that reach beyond the limits of public funding, and to connect the community to the everyday work of its schools. It is being formed through a community effort, with the Sacramento Mountains Foundation among its founding partners. The organization will be strictly nonpolitical, dedicated wholly to the success of the district's students and teachers. The Role The Founding Executive Director will be the foundation's first employee, its chief executive, and its public face. Working with the founding Board of Directors and the Sacramento Mountains Foundation, this leader will help stand up the organization, raise its first funds, build its earliest partnerships, and set the course for the years ahead. The work asks for someone who can both cast a vision and carry it out—building an institution while delivering results from the start. Key Responsibilities Help establish the foundation and shape its identity, culture, and early priorities.
Design and lead fundraising:
annual campaigns, major gifts, grants, sponsorships, and special events. Build durable relationships with donors, businesses, civic organizations, community groups, and educators. Serve as the foundation's chief ambassador and spokesperson. Work with district leadership to identify where support will matter most and to recognize the accomplishments of students and staff. Recruit, engage, and support volunteers and community partners. Directly report to and support the founding Board of Directors in governance, planning, and sound stewardship of the foundation's resources. Qualifications A strong record of leadership and professional experience. A college degree is welcome but not required; relevant experience is valued equally with formal education. At least five years of leadership experience in a field such as nonprofit management, public administration, education, business, fundraising, community development, or public service. A demonstrated record of building relationships and bringing people together around a shared goal. Strong written and spoken communication, including public speaking. Experience managing budgets, operations, or an organization. Familiarity with the field of educational foundations—including networks such as the National Association of Educational Foundations—is an asset. What Sets a Candidate Apart The strongest candidates will bring some combination of the following: A track record of launching or growing an organization, program, or initiative. Success in fundraising, donor relations, and partnership development. An established network of relationships across Alamogordo and Otero County. Familiarity with the educational, civic, and economic landscape of New Mexico with a a focus on southern New Mexico. A reputation for integrity, collaboration, and service. A genuine passion for public education and student success.
