High Peaks Hospice is seeking an exceptional Executive Director to guide our mission of providing exceptional hospice and palliative care with dignity, compassion, and integrity. As our Chief Executive Officer, you will partner with the Board of Directors to shape the future of our organization and ensure high-quality care for patients and families throughout our region. About High Peaks Hospice Headquartered in Hudson Falls, NY, with offices in Saranac Lake and Mineville, High Peaks Hospice serves a 5,400-square-mile medically underserved rural catchment area across upstate New York with an operating budget of 4.5 million dollars. We are a mission-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families facing life-limiting illness. Our team delivers compassionate, patient-centered care while fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and community connection. Position Summary Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director provides strategic, operational, and financial leadership to ensure organizational sustainability, regulatory compliance, and continued growth. This is a high-impact role for a leader who thrives at the intersection of healthcare operations, fundraising, board governance, and community advocacy.
Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership:
Develop and execute a forward-thinking strategic plan in partnership with the Board and senior leadership.
Board Relations:
Serve as the primary liaison to the Board, supporting effective governance and decision-making.
Operational Excellence:
Oversee daily operations, clinical quality, and continuous improvement and foster effective and transparent communication among agency employees, board members, volunteers and community organizations.
Financial Stewardship & Fundraising:
Manage budgets, drive revenue strategies, and cultivate donor relationships.
Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure full adherence to Medicare, NY State DOH, and all hospice standards.
Team & Culture:
Build and lead a high-performing, compassionate staff and volunteer team; be passionate about employee support and retention.
Community Presence:
Act as the public face of the organization, strengthening partnerships and advocacy among a diverse community of like-minded groups.
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in Healthcare Administration, Business, Nonprofit Management, Nursing, or related field. 7+ years of senior leadership experience, with at least 5 years in executive or director-level roles. Proven experience in financial management, board relations, and fundraising. Strong knowledge of hospice/palliative care regulations and operations (preferred).
Preferred:
Hospice or healthcare leadership experience. CHCE or similar certification. Demonstrated success in nonprofit fundraising and grant development. Familiarity with the North Country and the Adirondacks or similar experience in a decentralized rural hospice setting What We Offer Competitive compensation and benefits package.
