About Hope House Hope House is a nonprofit organization providing transitional housing for homeless families in the Wolfeboro, NH area. Hope House has seven bedroom units with private bathrooms plus a shared kitchen and living space. In addition to housing, Hope House helps connect its tenants with various social services including job placement and mental health support, with the ultimate goal of helping families move toward stable, independent housing. The average length of stay at Hope House is 110 days. Position Summary The Director of Operations is responsible for the safe, consistent, and effective day-to-day operation of Hope House. This person will lead a small team, maintain staffing coverage for a 24/7 residential program, support strong occupancy, and ensure that families receive respectful, well-coordinated assistance during their stay. The role combines residential operations, staff supervision, community partnership development, problem-solving, and resident-service coordination. The Director of Operations will help create an environment that is orderly, welcoming, accountable, and focused on helping families progress toward stable housing. Key Responsibilities Manage the day-to-day operation of Hope House and ensure consistent, safe, reliable coverage for a 24/7 residential setting. Recruit, schedule, train, supervise, coach, and evaluate approximately 4-6 staff members; maintain appropriate coverage for evenings, weekends, holidays, and staff absences. Implement Hope House policies, procedures, resident expectations, safety practices, confidentiality standards, and incident-response protocols. Oversee intake, move-in, occupancy, unit turnover, and move-out processes, with a goal of using available housing capacity effectively and appropriately. Maintain accurate operational and resident records and establish practical systems for documentation, handoffs, and internal communication. Build relationships with referral sources and community partners to support a healthy pipeline of eligible families. Coordinate access to community-based services for residents, including employment and job-placement assistance, mental-health services, benefits navigation, education, childcare, transportation, and other supports as available. Help families connect with longer-term housing resources and other services that support successful transitions out of Hope House. Develop working partnerships with local social-service agencies, healthcare and behavioral-health providers, schools, employers, housing organizations, and other community resources. Monitor household needs, supplies, maintenance needs, and other operational concerns; escalate significant risks promptly. Track basic operating expenses and support budget management, purchasing controls, and financial reporting in coordination with the Executive Director. Collect and report practical program information such as occupancy, referrals, length of stay, service connections, incidents, exits, and other measures established by Hope House Executive Director and Board of Directors. Provide regular operational updates to the Executive Director and support reports to the Board as requested. Participate in an on-call or escalation structure appropriate for a 24/7 program; this does not mean the Director is personally expected to work around the clock. Preferred Qualifications At least 5 years of experience in residential services, housing, social services, human services, nonprofit operations, or a related field. Experience supervising staff and managing schedules in an operation that requires dependable coverage. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment. Sound judgment and the ability to respond calmly and appropriately to conflicts, emergencies, and sensitive situations. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to collaborate with families, staff, community organizations, and service providers. Experience building referral networks or coordinating social-service resources is strongly preferred. Familiarity with trauma-aware, strengths-based, or family-centered approaches is preferred. Comfort with basic data tracking, documentation, expense management, and operational reporting. Success in the Role The Director of Operations will be successful when: Hope House is consistently staffed, safe, well organized, appropriately occupied, and connected to a dependable network of community services. When families experience clear expectations, responsive support, and effective connections to resources that help them move toward stable housing.
