Job Description

Work Environment:
Fast-Paced, Refined Service Our 270 Park Ave Headquarters is looking seeks dedicated and detail orientated Stewarding Manager to join our hospitably team. The Stewarding Manger is responsible for leading the stewarding/utility function to ensure a clean, safe, efficient, and well-supported operation. This evening shift role sets departmental standards, builds repeatable processes, and ensures consistent availability of clean service ware, equipment, and supplies to support both front-of-house and back-of-house needs. The Stewarding Manager also drives compliance with applicable health, safety, and sanitation requirements; oversees equipment care and readiness; and develops a reliable team through training, staffing oversight, and performance accountability. Key Responsibilities 1) Operational Leadership & Service Support Oversee day-to-day stewarding/utility operations to ensure efficient workflow, strong execution, and consistent readiness across all shifts. Partner with FOH/BOH leadership to anticipate operational needs, volume changes, and event/service requirements. Ensure proper handling and movement of clean and soiled items, supporting sanitation and organization standards. Support operational logistics (as applicable), including staging, transport, and set-up of service ware, equipment, and supplies. 2) Standards, Safety & Compliance Establish, implement, and maintain department SOPs, routines, and checklists to drive consistency and accountability. Ensure compliance with applicable Department of Health (or local regulatory) sanitation, cleaning, and food safety requirements within stewarding scope. Reinforce safe chemical handling, PPE use, and safe work practices. Maintain a work environment that is inspection-ready and proactively addresses risks and deficiencies. 3) Equipment Oversight & Preventive Maintenance Oversee proper operation and daily care of dishwashing, pot-washing, and related stewarding equipment. Identify equipment performance issues early; coordinate basic troubleshooting and escalate repairs/service requests as needed. Ensure appropriate inventory of chemicals, tools, small equipment, and PPE required to operate safely and effectively. Collaborate with culinary/operations teams to support equipment readiness for service and events. 4) Team Leadership & People Management Lead training expectations for stewarding/utility roles, including onboarding, cross-training, and reinforcement of standards. Manage staffing plans and scheduling strategy to align coverage with business needs, volume, and events. Coach, evaluate performance, and partner with leadership on corrective action when needed. Build a strong team culture focused on reliability, cleanliness, urgency, teamwork, and professionalism. 5) Inventory Awareness & Loss Prevention Implement practices to reduce loss and improve accountability for high-risk items (e.g., flatware, glassware, smallwares). Drive breakage reduction initiatives through handling standards, process improvements, and training reinforcement. Monitor trends and recurring issues; recommend operational adjustments to improve control and reduce replacement costs.
Qualifications / Skills
Experience leading stewarding/utility operations in a high-volume foodservice environment (supervisory/management experience preferred). Strong knowledge of sanitation standards, safe chemical use, and dishroom workflow best practices. Proven ability to train, coach, schedule, and manage performance in a fast-paced setting. Comfort with basic troubleshooting and coordination of light maintenance/repair needs. Strong communication and collaboration skills across FOH/BOH leadership. Physical Requirements Ability to perform essential job functions safely and consistently in accordance with applicable standards and regulations. Reliable and punctual attendance; ability to work flexible schedules as needed. Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs (or as required by the operation). Ability to stand and move for extended periods; frequent bending, lifting, carrying, reaching, and repetitive motions. Ability to climb steps/stairs regularly and work safely in back-of-house environments.
