Job Description

Position Summary The 3rd Shift Operations Manager leads all overnight production operations across the Roto-Molding, Finishing, Barker Beds, and Primary Assembly departments, with full accountability for safety, quality, output, and staffing during the shift. This role provides direct, formal leadership of production associates — including scheduling, performance management, and disciplinary action — and serves as the senior on-site leader during overnight hours when other plant leadership is off-site. The 3rd Shift Operations Manager reports to the Director of Manufacturing and is expected to run the shift with a high degree of independent judgment, escalating only issues requiring director-level input while maintaining close communication for shift handoff and continuity into day shift. Key Responsibilities Shift Leadership & Production Direct all Roto-Molding, Finishing , Barker Bed, and Primary Assembly Departments activities during 3rd shift, ensuring the production schedule is met Assign and adjust labor across the shift to match staffing to production demand Serve as the senior decision-maker on-site overnight, resolving operational issues independently and escalating appropriately Conduct shift-start meetings covering safety, priorities, and quality focus areas Provide a thorough shift handoff/pass-down to day shift leadership, including open issues, downtime, and quality concerns Roto-Molding, Finishing, Barker Bed, Primary Assembly Process Oversight Oversee roto-molding cycle times, oven temperatures, mold changes, and process parameters to maintain quality and throughput Oversee Finishing, Barker Bed, and Primary Assembly operations (trimming, assembly, inspection, packaging as applicable) to ensure product meets specification Partner with Quality and Engineering on process deviations, defects, and continuous improvement opportunities Monitor equipment performance and coordinate with Maintenance on overnight repairs and PM support needed People Management Directly supervise shift associates, including attendance management, coaching, and performance feedback Administer disciplinary action and performance documentation in accordance with company policy Conduct or support hiring, onboarding, and training of overnight production staff Approve timecards, manage overtime, and handle shift scheduling/coverage decisions Safety & Compliance Own overnight safety performance for the department, including incident response and investigation Ensure PPE compliance, safe equipment operation, and adherence to lockout/tagout and other safety procedures Conduct safety walks and address hazards immediately during the shift Maintain compliance with company policies and applicable regulatory requirements in the absence of day-shift leadership Reporting & Continuous Improvement Track and report shift production, downtime, scrap, and labor metrics to the Director of Manufacturing Identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives specific to roto-molding and finishing processes Support annual planning, budgeting, and staffing discussions as the department's overnight leadership representative Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED. 3+ years of manufacturing supervisory experience, including direct oversight of hourly production staff Experience in plastics manufacturing required; roto-molding process experience strongly preferred Demonstrated ability to lead independently with minimal on-site support during off-shift hours Working knowledge of employment practices related to attendance, discipline, and performance management Strong communication skills, including experience running effective shift handoffs Ability to read production schedules, process specifications, and quality documentation Willingness and ability to work 3rd shift (overnight) on a consistent, ongoing basis Preferred Qualifications Associates or Bachelors degree in Operations Management or Business Prior supervisory experience specifically in roto-molding, blow molding, or plastics finishing operations Familiarity with lean manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement methodologies Experience with production/ERP systems for scheduling and reporting

3rd Shift Roto-Molding, Finishing, Barker Bed, and Primary Assembly production associates Work Environment & Physical Requirements Manufacturing floor environment: exposure to heat (roto-molding ovens), noise, and machinery Regular walking of the production floor throughout the shift; frequent standing, bending, and lifting up to 40 lbs. Consistent overnight (3rd shift) schedule required; may require flexibility during transitions, emergencies, or coverage needs Required to wear PPE per department and company safety policy Operates with a high degree of autonomy given limited on-site leadership overnight
Pay:
$75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
