Valid CDL appropriate for assigned company vehicles Position Overview Preferred Waste and Elite Waste are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to oversee our residential and commercial waste services, portable restroom operations and other site services. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for employees, routes, fleet readiness, customer service, sales and day-to-day business performance. The Operations Manager will serve as the owner's primary operating leader and will have meaningful authority to make decisions, solve problems and hold employees accountable. The right candidate will be equally comfortable managing from the office, inspecting work in the field, meeting with customers and filling in on a route when necessary. Key ResponsibilitiesTeam Leadership Hire, train, coach, schedule and manage drivers, helpers, service employees and office personnel. Establish clear expectations and hold employees accountable for attendance, safety, productivity and customer service. Handle employee performance and disciplinary matters professionally and consistently. Develop dependable staffing and backup-coverage plans. Maintain accurate employee, training and performance records. Routes and Daily Operations Oversee daily dispatching, routing and service completion. Ensure residential, commercial, portable-restroom and garbage collections is completed accurately and on schedule. Adjust routes and staffing when equipment problems, absences or service issues arise. Personally operate company vehicles and cover routes when drivers are unavailable. Monitor missed stops, callbacks, incomplete work and recurring service problems. Improve route efficiency while maintaining dependable customer service. Fleet and Equipment Coordinate preventive maintenance, inspections and repairs for trucks and operating equipment. Track open repairs and ensure safety-related problems receive immediate attention. Work with qualified mechanics, vendors and parts suppliers. Confirm vehicles are ready before routes begin. Help control repair costs, downtime, fuel usage and equipment damage. Customer Service and Office Operations Oversee incoming calls, customer requests, service complaints and follow-up. Ensure customers receive a meaningful response within one business day. Step in to answer calls and resolve escalated issues when needed. Coordinate customer communication during delays, route changes and service interruptions. Work with office staff to maintain accurate customer, service and billing information. Sales and Business Growth Develop new residential, commercial, portable-restroom, garbage collections and temporary-fencing business. Maintain an active sales pipeline and follow up with prospective customers. Prepare quotes within company pricing and profitability guidelines. Strengthen customer retention and identify cross-selling opportunities. Help expand services throughout the company's Central Texas territory. Produce profitable growth without sacrificing service quality or operational control. Reporting and Financial Accountability Review operating results, labor usage, route performance, maintenance expenses and customer trends. Provide the owner with concise, accurate operating reports. Work with bookkeeping staff to verify financial and performance information. Manage company spending responsibly and maintain appropriate documentation. Use company resources to solve operating problems quickly and effectively. Safety and Compliance Enforce company safety policies and applicable transportation requirements. Verify that drivers, vehicles and equipment meet required qualifications. Conduct or assign safety inspections and corrective actions. Ensure incidents, injuries, equipment damage and customer complaints are properly documented. Maintain all qualifications required to operate assigned company vehicles. Required Qualifications Current and valid CDL appropriate for the company vehicles assigned. Demonstrated experience managing employees and daily field operations. Experience with routing, dispatching, fleet operations, transportation, waste services, construction services or a related industry. Proven ability to hire, coach, correct and hold employees accountable. Strong customer-service and problem-solving skills. Ability to understand operating costs, labor expenses, pricing and profitability. Comfortable using computers, routing systems, customer-management software and financial reports. Ability to communicate clearly with employees, customers, vendors and ownership. Willingness and ability to operate company vehicles and cover routes when necessary. Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-moving operating environment. Preferred Qualifications Management experience in solid waste, portable restrooms, trucking, logistics or field services. Experience managing multiple service lines or business locations. Knowledge of preventive-maintenance programs and commercial vehicle operations. Experience developing commercial accounts and growing recurring service revenue. Familiarity with the Greater Waco and Central Texas service area. Schedule This position requires early-morning availability. The General Manager must be present and actively managing operations from approximately 5:00-8:00 a.m. on scheduled operating days , followed by the remaining field, fleet, customer, sales and administrative responsibilities of the position. Occasional weekend and after-hours availability will be required when operational issues arise. Compensation Base salary of $62,400 plus performance-based incentives starting after 90 days. Quarterly performance/sales growth-based bonuses. Company phone, computer and approved business transportation or mileage arrangement. Reimbursement of authorized business expenses. Incentive compensation is based on defined performance standards and is not guaranteed. What Success Looks Like The successful Operations Manager will create an operation in which: Routes and scheduled services are completed reliably. Employees understand their responsibilities and are held accountable. Trucks and equipment receive timely preventive maintenance. Customer concerns receive prompt, meaningful responses. Safety requirements and operating records are consistently maintained. The businesses grow profitably while protecting service quality. The owner receives accurate information without needing to manage every daily decision.
