Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership and hands-on oversight of facility operations, resident services, staffing, budgeting, compliance, quality assurance, admissions, and community relations.
  • Promote a recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and person-centered environment for residents receiving mental health rehabilitation support.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, licensing standards, resident rights requirements, safety expectations, and internal policies.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop department leaders and direct-care teams while fostering accountability, collaboration, morale, and professional growth.
  • Partner with clinical, nursing, behavioral health, pharmacy, therapy, and community providers to support coordinated care and individualized service planning.
  • Monitor resident satisfaction, family communication, incident response, service quality, risk management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee census development, referral relationships, admissions processes, and marketing efforts while ensuring appropriate resident placement and service fit.
  • Manage operating budgets, staffing plans, vendor relationships, expenses, revenue goals, and financial reporting in alignment with organizational expectations.
  • Lead emergency preparedness, infection prevention, facility safety, staff training, and corrective action processes.
  • Represent the facility professionally with residents, families, employees, regulators, referral sources, healthcare partners, advocacy organizations, and the community. Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business administration, social services, psychology, nursing, human services, or a related field preferred; equivalent leadership experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of leadership experience in assisted living, behavioral health, mental health rehabilitation, long-term care, residential treatment, senior living, or a related healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of assisted living operations, resident rights, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, budgeting, staffing, and risk management.
  • Experience supporting residents with mental health, behavioral health, cognitive, psychosocial, or rehabilitation needs.
  • Ability to meet all applicable state requirements for an assisted living manager or administrator, including required training, background checks, and ongoing continuing education.
  • Strong communication, conflict resolution, decision-making, documentation, coaching, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams with professionalism, empathy, accountability, and sound judgment. Preferred Qualifications
  • Licensed Nursing Facility Administrator, Assisted Living Manager training, behavioral health certification, or related credential.
  • Experience working with state surveyors, licensing agencies, accreditation bodies, managed care organizations, or county/community mental health partners.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care, psychiatric rehabilitation principles, crisis prevention, de-escalation, medication support processes, and interdisciplinary care coordination.
  • Proven success improving occupancy, staff retention, resident outcomes, compliance performance, and operational efficiency.
Ideal Candidate Profile The ideal candidate is a mission-focused leader who understands both the operational demands of assisted living and the dignity, consistency, and structure residents need in a mental health rehabilitation setting. This individual will be comfortable balancing compassion with accountability, supporting staff through complex resident needs, and maintaining a facility culture rooted in safety, respect, recovery, and continuous improvement.
